Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Returning to the office conversation thread

Can't believe how many people want to be back in the office.

Sure I get the HR folks who actually get to travel and see new places on the company's dime, but why would anyone want to be stuck in a cube farm for 8 hours a day?

So many people are codependent.

Upvote if you want to stay WFH, downvote if you don't.

@2cey+19IVp1l8 Another DA troll. Some of us are much more efficient at home without all of the distractions of the office. Most of the people that want to go back are generally more interested in the social aspect. Do that on your own time and stop wasting money and costing the company to lose money with your lack of productivity Those of us that take our jobs seriously can thrive from working at home because we can control our own environments. We don't have to listen to folks whine about their teams losing their game over the weekend or something else pointless and irrelevant to the job you're paid to perform.

WF is reducing the amount of buildings / office space we have, but that's a 5 year process. For the next few years there will be plenty of capacity for a majority of employees. Not saying that's good or bad, just pointing out that office space reductions are a long term process.

Ahhh... got it.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Zoomer

Apparently a Zoomer is a GenZ individual who is essentially addicted to the fast-paced advances in technology and culture that the second wave baby boomers developed over the frenetically paced past 40 years.

Who knew that sacrificing decades of sleep for relentless innovation was all to mesmerize millenials through their smartphone addictions.

I personally find that to be too sad for words...

Yeah I don't know how I feel about the neighborhood design, why do they even call it that? it's not like we move to a different house in our neighborhoods to live everyday. If they would stop restacking the floors every six months maybe they would save alot of money and can trim down the need for CPG to make decisions for how we use or don't use our space.

Wf has so much vacant space though that they can give up 30-40% and still able to have a seat for everyone. They will also be able to further reduce when they convert to Neighborhood Design, which is another morale k–ler initiative if you ask me.

The bank is reducing its office real estate, big time. Even if a manager wants his or her team in the office 5 days a week, there will be no space for everyone to do that. I think the expense pressures are going to be the saving grace for those of us who would rather work at home most of the time. And it’s also great news for those of us who would rather never get on a plane from SF to Charlotte for a few days of pointless meetings.

Charlie is over you working from home. We’ll all be back in September and they’ll be monitoring reports to make sure.

My manager is saying the top is saying we have to come back 5 days/week when we return. Seems crazy, but maybe it’s the bank’s way of forcing some attrition? But won’t the people with good options be the ones to leave?

by

Post ID: @2syp+19IVp1l8

Neither. I think people should have the option if it makes sense.Over the years, many employees have established warm and meaningful relationships. Sometimes a greeting in passing or a quick chat in the hallway can make someone’s day. There were definitely times when I resented the intrusions, the annoying co-worker, the commute, etc. but in general I miss my team.

I was WFH before COVID, and I love it, but I also recognize that there are over a quarter million people in this company and each of them has their own preference. Each of us also has our own quirks with respect to productivity in WFH v office. There are times when I'm distracted / less productive in both environments. None of us is Dwight Schrute, sneezing with our eyes open so we can keep working. There are many distractions in an office environment, but anyone that says 'I'm never distracted at home!' is probably lying. We're human beings, it happens. Long story short, some people do like to work in an office and some people are more productive in that setting, and that's perfectly fine.

some of us were hired as permanent telecommuters, the original terms of our employment. I wasn't forced to accept, but would NOT have accepted if it had NOT been telecommute.

so yeah, the company gets to change the terms of my employment without my consent, I get that. and I don't have to accept those new terms either - so Saul, Charlie, if you're reading these for ways to get ppl to quit - here ya go.....

In office, Wells Fargo people at all levels are hardly spending on work because they gossip, play office politics, network and scratch backs on Wells Fargo time. These people are internal dealings to enrich and secure their rich positions in Wells Fargo.

Fact is tasks done while work from home are digitally recorded and measurable data so we can see work progress. Wells Fargo already has tools to track work or nonwork time.

Work from home is efficient and cost savings.

@1jiw+19IVp1l8: The problem is that entitled people like yourself seem to believe that you're the only ones who are allowed to share their thoughts. Anything anyone else has to say simply isn't allowed to be said?

Good luck trying that out in the real world.

Hilarious how these boomers make comments like, "you're not entitled to an opinion because you chose to work here." Or, "why did you apply if you don't like it?"

How in the world is anyone supposed to know what it's truly like to work someplace until you're actually working there? Drink your metamucil and get over yourselves.

@1kng. You must be one of those so socially awkward that can’t even look at people in the eyes when passing them in the hallway. WFH all you want but don’t forget to get out from time to time and learn how to deal with people face to face.

I want to come back to the office. I am not a boomer and I don't hate my homelife. I like the separation between the two. WFH doesn't leave me the option of leaving work at the office anymore.
I enjoy getting out the house and I miss my morning and evening commute. Sitting home all day in front of the computer is hard to get out and take breaks. I honestly don't miss my coworkers but I miss the balance between the homelife and the work life.
This should be optional. If you want to stay wfh, you should have the option. If you want to come back to the office, this should be an option as well.

I actually like going to work at work. My home life is not unhappy at all, the commute is not as bad most of the time, as it could be. Generally getting out of my house is nice, especially since the only traffic jam I encounter is our cat trying to run me down for some treats, I'd like to make it to work one day with out a detour to the treat drawer...interaction with others besides your family I think is a good thing. I don't have time to do lunch with alot of people but the occasional happy hour after work is nice. I think some enjoy wfh it's easier, some like me maybe like to separate work from home, then again I like my team we all don't work in the same city but I actually get to interact will mostly all LOB and all levels of staff.
Whatever you enjoy I hope it keeps working for you.

If youre a zoomer and you decided to come to Wells Fargo for a job: you have zero room to throw down comments. The dscision to come to the old hegemonic non innovative regulatory lightning rod of a dumpster fire means your ability to think critically is impaired. Likely because you have your nose in a phone watching corporate rectmruiting videos on youtube

No one in my department would even know if I were physically in the office since we all work in different cities. Unfortunately they're going to run badge reports to make sure we actually show up in person. I hate how dirty our office is.

I like WFH and dread going back. I wish there was an option to remain WFH. If I lived in a more metropolitan area with lots of employment opportunities I would quit and get a 100% remote job. I am much more at peace and am much calmer working from home. I feel healthier and have a much better mood and mindset. Why is this company stuck in the dark ages? I don't have interaction face to face with anyone to do my job. All of the people I partner with to get my work done are not in my location. All communication is virtual. My team is at the same location as me but we work individually we don't partner to get work done.

I don't want to go back. I just pray someone higher up changes their mind and allows those who want to WFH remain home.

There are those people who are true extroverts - people who get their energy from the people around them.

Yes, and they tend to be the ones who go to lunch in groups and spout off endlessly in meetings without actually saying anything. When it comes time for actual head-down work, there’s always a reason why someone else should do it.

I hate the open office environment so much I plan to quit when we have to go back if I’m not canned by then.

Trying to work with four loud id–ts standing three feet away from me talking about their weekends as if they were in their living rooms - and the guy in the workspace two feet away coughing his head off without covering his mouth. Yeah, no.

I’d rather sell coffee at Starbucks.

There are those people who are true extroverts - people who get their energy from the people around them. Let them go back to the office - more power to them. I am not one of them. I am an introvert. Being around people drains my energy. I'll WFH.

Many companies are switching to a hybrid workforce. Perhaps this one should consider it as well.

@ysa+19IVp1l8 Most definitely, if that person is a manager. If you have never worked for a person who hated to go home and expected their team to be as “dedicated “ as they were, you’ve been lucky
