It’s all about who you know, not what you bring to the table. Performance, skills, experience, none of it matters. They’ll always find an excuse to hold back those who’ve earned it, but if you’re in the right circle, “someone’s friend”, that’s all it takes to get promoted. This is what hurts Nike and it’s going to hold the company stuck at where it is

@1mfz+1vm3GlJl you are spot on with the nepotism/favoritism in supply chain. Leaders who should have got let go in the reorg did not, or were promoted, while many of the great leaders across supply chain somehow had their job eliminated. Most of the time I know the decision was made by someone who did not even know the org and is some cases, the job was "eliminated", only to be filled with someone else in the organization or posted a month or two later. Guess VA wants to hit his marks and make sure there is not any leaders in his org with their own thoughts or opinions.
Sounds like OP works in Digital Product Creation. Leadership in that department is reluctant to hire or even work with anyone who didn't get scammed have classes with them at the Art Institute. The favoritism is obvious and shortsighted.
Nike has always been this way. Either learn to “play the game” or find another company that values talent, knowledge, accomplishments, leadership, etc. when making organizational, assignment and promotion decisions.
[I’ve worked for multiple large companies and politics/schmoozing was important at them all but it’s on another level at The Swoosh.]
Supply Chain org can be a good example. VA quietly promoted many from his home country to Sr Director or VP (and protected most from the country in the latest layoff. None of them promoted to senior directors or VPs are qualified for the positions and people under are suffering. If you are in the organization, I bet you all agree!!
You just found your answer buddy. If you really want that promotion, be that su-k up. Its that simple. Stop complaining.

Nepotism exists in most companies so I am not surprised at all but I really don't like how Nike handle talent mobility, promotion and etc.. I bet most of us need to spend more than 1/3 of their time on 1:1& interview instead of doing amazing works. And I don't blame anyone because this is 100% on pathetic HR aka "People Solution".
And since hiring / promotion process is not fair anyway, I suggest we let managers pick whoever they want, at least it's not wasting other people's time!
