Hardly. Do you think the people/businesses leaving CA, NY, IL etc. just put the wrong address in Google maps one day and wound up living in other states by mistake? I escaped from behind that iron curtain myself. I know what these states do and exactly why people leave.
"Regressive", heh, like socialism is some kind of new wave idea. I take it you were sick the day they covered 19th - 20th century history in that public school. In any event, there's nothing new or effective about centralized authority and centrally planned economies. It's the same plan since Pharaoh, just with different marketing. Individual liberty, human Rights, and a very limited government that is subservient to We The People, is the 'new thing' historically speaking.

That's a pretty funny made up narrative. Now let's look at actual real world failure. Who ran Detroit? Half the jobs created in the country in the last month were created in one state. Care to bet which 'color' that state was? Which states get selected 'best for business' year after year? It isn't the navy blue states. Those are the ones were freedom starved people are running for their lives to escape. Which states are you more likely to have your town burned down by a mob of mostly peaceful criminals? There seems to be a trend developing here. But hey, it's exactly what you asked for, so enjoy it. I don't begrudge people in other states doing whatever they want to their own states, just leave my state alone.

No, the red states would tank hard as there would only be two or 3 that have solid income, the rest are soaking off the government at a very high rate. And when some of those red states couldn't get assistance from other red states, they would join up with the blue states and the federal government. The remaining red states would either have to rely in the income of 2-3 other states as a whole (not counting any that switch blue due to the massive influx of tech companies moving into their states), or they would collapse in short order.
So? Every state would figure it out just fine. It'd be insignificant impact compared to an insolvent nation.

They also have national health care they don’t have to pay high premiums for. Just like every other civilized country except this one where the HMOs and dr-g companies spend millions and hire lobbyists to prevent it.

That would be very detrimental to poorer states, which are disproportionately red.
It's also one of the very very few current expenditures that are actually the result of an enumerated power. Mil budget should be much smaller, but it should also be like 80% of the overall budget.
States should be doing 90% of what the feds are now. That not only creates the '50 labs' system to determine optimal policy, it puts the brakes on spending because states can't just print more and deficit spend to infinity/insolvency.
At some point "debt servicing" will require more $ than we are able to tax / borrow. When that happens, the Great Depression will look like a nice walk in the park. But why worry about that, there's roads to build amiright!?

Before the income tax the federal government had no idea what you even did for a living. Since then, the IRS has intruded upon and ruined countless lives and imposed a kind of tyranny that King George III could never have dreamed of. It has clearly become a failed policy, where pols carve out sweet deals for their friends / contributors while spending trillions of dollars of debt funded $ that will have to be paid by workers not even born yet (convenient, they can't vote or protest).
Completely unsustainable, and when they write the obituary of this nation, the disastrous spending/taxing imposed by DC will be exhibit A. Voters will obviously be culpable as well, they keep sending slimeballs, from both parties, to that capital that promise "someone else's money for your vote", as if that can ever work.

It's laughable how the feds steal/waste trillions every single year and if you question it someone says 'yeah, but without the feds we wouldn't have X', as if X couldn't be paid for at the state level and there aren't literally hundreds of billions of dollars wasted every single year. It's like when school funding gets cut, so the school board cuts the thing parents care about most first...never mind the waste/fraud/corruption behind the curtain! That will never be cut, because the powers at be don't want it cut they just want to inflict the max pain for any cut as a way of teaching the pleebs a lesson.

Yes, how dare they. Almost all of those issues were intended to be state issues. Feds should fund courts, cops, and the mil, and nothing else. States were intended to, and should do, everything else.
