Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I'm sorry I left my last job to join Nike

I consider this to be the biggest mistake of my career. And to think I was so happy when I got the offer, thinking what a great opportunity it was. Had I known then what I know now, I'd have stayed away as far as I could from this toxic mess. But hindsight is a 20/20 vision, they say.

@1lhm Pretty sure you misread the thread. Some of these are employees who turned down offers when they were recruited by Nike, uprooted their lives and were laid off shortly after because Nike changed direction.

Everyone looks like an a--hole in that situation. Nike for being irresponsible with its resources, not to mention crawling back to companies you just turned down a year or two ago is hella awkward

Yeah, important to remember that this site is not a representative sample of Nike employees. It's one of the few safe places you can safely vent about your workplace, so of course it's going to attract the more disgruntled employees. Plenty of Nike employees are perfectly happy with their jobs. That doesn't invalidate anyone's experience here, but nobody should base their opinion of Nike on what they read here. You'll find the same types of complaints if you look at virtually any large company on this site.

Wow. I am so sorry all of you are so unhappy. It must su-k to carry around so much anger and be upset all day. My honest take… so many people at Nike overvalue their contribution and aren’t as good as they think they are. Likely people who spend their whole time on here sh-t posting and moaning. Just leave already. Oh wait, you can’t because all these other “offers” you all have are non existent or are for going to work at Joe-blow nowhere. Get out you entitled group of whiners.

I think it depends on the org/role. I left my tech job because there was a lot of focus on blame (saw ppl curse each other out at progress and post mortem meetings). My current job at Nike (non tech) has always been forward looking and never sought blame.

Same, I wish I could go back and accept the other offers. Nike holds the title for “worst work place” in my 20+ year career.

Their slogan should change to: Just DON’T

No one has that much time, don’t kid yourself. Nike has been treating employees badly for at least a decade. Word spreads, it was bound to catch up to them. You can’t treat people like sh-t and expect everyone to still want to work for you. Consumers now look at the way employers treat people or their political stances, they invest in what aligns with them.

"After seeing threads here for past few weeks and speaking with few folks at Nike, I’ve declined an offer in Nike technology org"

Really? You're going to let anonymous strangers dictate your career move? For all you know, posters here could be your competition for the job who wanted to discourage others from competing for the job.

Same. I had multiple offers with more senior titles and I chose Nike because of what I was told the role was, and would grow into.

Almost immediately after moving my life and family, I learned many people seemed to have active interest in the role, and me, failing. I still embraced it and them, found ways to build strong relationships and add value, and was still laid off.

Absolutely would not do it again or recommend to anyone.
