But I one upped them. Maybe it cost them nothing to chase me away, but I used all the time in ‘office’ to look for another job and I landed a great opportunity. Almost double the salary, barely any commute, so far it appears to be a really nice workplace with some great opportunities. Moment I gave my notice was great!

It's a 25 mile drive for some people. My coworker drives over an hour each way. Really relatable to many I'm sure, since OP says their new job is close by.
