Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Astronauts

We closed a large office in Melville some time ago, yet there are directors and VPs still out there as WFH astronauts. We even leased space at Wells Fargo Bank for them for awhile then WFH for cost savings. Why aren’t they required to drive to Manhattan or BH for RTO? The rules apply for some but not all

Yea I report to an old Melville person who is permanent WFH. It was lovely sitting there as they told us we had to return to the office 4 days a week as they continue to get that flexibility of working from home. It's BS. They also told us about the 4 days 8hrs no flexibility when sick less than a week before May 1st. I hope Wells Fargo takes most of the fiserv jobs in house maybe they will finally close hagerstown and let who is left over work from home until they're replaced.

@1jwz+1mvo2b5j is right. Don't understand all the down votes. This is how upper management views certain employees. This is why certain ones are considered astronauts and should be retained. I do believe most on here are able to discern a rock star employee from one that is not. Not everyone is good at their job. Some collect paychecks and hope to not be found out.

The whole "astronaut" theme was a terribly cynical approach to appeal to the egos of the key, "unreplacable" associates who found themselves not in NJ, Omaha or Atlanta. The thin promises of continued remote work was in reality a ploy to placate and stem attrition in the few times the management viewed "people" as important to running the business--even if it was a few. The reality of it was that it was a stall tactic, astronauts--after being told how key they were--are now left to drift in space.

Do as I say, not as I do. The new Fiserv motto. They have no clue on what is going on down below them. The managers and directors need to make it more apparent and stop sugar coating things. All the customers need to know that Fiserv is not staffed to handle all of their issues going forward. Also, how could we have another big producing quarter with all these WFH people. Makes you go hmmm. They couldn't even answer that question in the town hall, too much back peddling.

I know of a VP II who drives into BH from Long Island every day.

I also know of a principle architect who lives in LI, who is WTF. he was previously in the jersey city office.

there's really no ryhme or reason to their rationale as to who has to be in the office and who does not.

Thanks for confirming that senior leadership sees us as low value shilly! No wonder why we are being forced to be corralled like cattle into pens.

It is because the are viewed as an employee that brings more value to the company and to upper management than you do. It is plain and simple. So stop asking such stupid questions when you already know this answer.

Yeah now everybody that is required to be in the office will be jealous of people who are still remote...

I knew someone who lived on Long Island that was told they need to drive to BH office - they retired instead of doing a 2+ hr communte each way.

"Do they live near BH?"
I don't think it matters. Many I know were in the office before the pandemic, now they stay WFH.

There are a lot of them like that. They are described as "SME"s who are too important to fire. HR believe the company can still function with these people around. If you are not on the list you are expendable.
