Retailers are no longer at the mercy of Nike. You have already ditched them and took overwhelming credit for digital sales. Only idea that may be vrooming in JD is ‘Time to sell at Amazon’

@1sgj+1rEMUsh3 You’re attaching someone’s appearance to their health, while science has proven that that’s not an adequate measure of physical fitness. Our consumer base is much, much broader when we’re marketing to all body types rather than just the 2% that appear physically fit to your standards. Relatability matters when it comes to brand loyalty, and that’s been proven several times over by studies in the last handful of years. A lot of people at nike can’t seem to evolve, which is ironic because it’s one of the nike maxims.

@1sgj: You’re correct that different opinions are often not well tolerated in PDX. This region “celebrates diversity” because it doesn’t have much of it.

This new consumer fop focus is an excessive overcorrection. It’s desperate, costly, and yet another downward spiral towards demise. All corporate minions are now scrambling to follow this non-strategy. Pathetic. The German football team sponsorship is nice, but at what $$$? Maybe that’s why they need to fire people to fund this deal

@1pxy+1rEMUsh3 allow me to put it into terms that "gym bro" wouldn't:

Nike is collapsing under your dead weight, and your low-IQ. If someone is buying shoes to compensate for their morbid obesity, everyone on the street or at the grocery store will see this grotesque monstrosity as yet another very, very good reason not to buy those particular shoes and any brand that is unfortunate enough to be worn by them.

@1pxy+1rEMUsh3 I genuinely appreciate your willingness to engage. I can assure you I'm not a 'gym bro' nor a pretentious runner - and I'm sorry you have had poor experiences with runners and people at gyms. That said, I believe in health and science.

Nike to me was always inspiring me to push myself to be better. To be stronger. A stronger dad, stronger son, stronger physically, stronger mentally, etc.

That swoosh meant a lot to me. Celebrating obesity (or minimizing the health risks) - which is a well studied health risk - doesn't inspire me. Hence - I believe - the brand is in a weird confused spot.

PS: I'm 31 - so not a 'boomer'. I realize my POV isn't tolerated well here - and I realize Portland in general isn't accepting of different perspectives. I came here because I loved the brand. The Nike I knew has changed - I'm willing to accept that. But I think Nike has a choice: Are you a social company, or a for-profit athletic company.

Anyway - we may never see eye-to-eye and that's okay with me! Best wishes (truly!)

@1jme+1rEMUsh3 gym bro that thinks his vague understanding of building muscle makes him qualified to generalize health conditions enters the chat

Or it could be a pretentious runner. Either one.

Just do you know it is possible to be an athlete and not put others down for health conditions you clearly don’t understand the complexities of. Body inclusivity affects you in NO way and has nothing to do with the company in its current position. Get a grip.

I'm shocked the inclusivity fashion show highlighting obesity and putting tamp-ns in the men's bathrooms didn't move the needle on the stock.

Remember when Nike used to be about showcasing and equipping the world's most elite and inspiring athletes? That trickled down as inspiration and goosebumps for the world, who then bought Nike.

Now we all sit around and clap for future heart disease patients and call it inspiring.

Sorry. I'm confused by the direction.

Layoffs are happening because employees have been spending way too much time thinking about social justice and less time on higher-IQ pursuits.

If you've ever clapped at a DEI or ESG lecture, this is your permanent fate that will haunt you even after you leave Nike. It means your Mind. Does. Not. Work.

The only two concrete items on the agenda are to save 2 billion dollars and how to get there is through layoffs rather then building a concrete strategy. The recent launch of dn is far from the innovation that takes place at Nike and if anything it reiterates an outdated and mediocre design org. No product no company! Run while you can!

We already dumped a bunch of inventory to Costco last year. Cashing in on the brand’s value & and exclusivity isn’t a business strategy. It’s consulting piracy that’s going to leave the company an empty husk within a decade.

How’s CDA workin out?

“Nike just posted its first decline in its digital business since 2015, when it first began reporting growth specific to that channel in earnings releases/calls”

Now we’re in panic mode asking for love from bitter ex’s ie Di-k’s, Foot Locker, DSW, many more. Amazon next?…

I really dislike doom and gloom, but do you all understand how many more people will be canned over next 3 years?!?! We’re cutting costs by $2 BILLION.

I thought layoffs were supposed to save the company money. How did they F this layoff so badly that it cost us ~20% EPS.

Pivoting from direct, while smart, is a multi billion dollar flop.

JD must go

Very high bar set for a bunch of business losers failing upwards. We're in some repeat gold medalist hold my beer territory

I'd bet my entire net worth you could randomly draft a higher functioning ELT from active directory

Sounds like the whole move to digital was a mistake as JD's all like... we're gonna work with our wholesalers more. We're gonna show up at events. It's like yeah... everyone knew this except you mr. consultant.... not everything is 'digital'.

I'm honestly surprised stock is still at 95. I will not be surprised to see it in the 70s Friday. After that lackluster, directionless call and 4 years of clueless meandering I would think the board would show him the door.

We're going to do an innovation pipeline. Well, what the f—you have been doing for the last three years? I mean. Seriously. It sounds like you got caught with your pants down, and oh, yeah, Nike Direct is down. Hmm, how's that offense working out for you, JD Robot?

ugh. yuck.

After hours trading is wild... 106.... nope.... 98!

Imagine any other Nike leader since '72 uttering the words "we are going to sharpen our focus on sports." And green shoes? Who wrote this weak script? And why can't JD deliver is in a genuine, compelling manner? It's just not that tough. He is the world's first AI CEO. Ugh.
