Why do we have so many ETW's when company is struggling with budget and going through layoff?
Isn't it right time to say good bye to all ETW by June?

Feels like people are confusing ETWs with contracted & offshore firms. Some leaders have given away sweetheart deals to their buddies to milk Nike.
ETWs aren’t as popular anymore. Not as much as getting kickbacks for locking Nike into a multi-year contract guaranteeing hundreds of external headcount.
As an ETW who converted into an FTE in a different department, ETW’s are treated so poorly across the board that this OP’s thought doesn’t even shock me. Most of us didn’t have access to any paid time off, health insurance or the perks that black badges get. I worked just as hard to be kicked to the curb. Your work would grind to a halt without ETW’s.
ETW - I external worker aka contractor
They are needed because Nike is terrible at planning. The ETW’s fill the void.
What’s an ETW?
total cost of an employee is around double their base salary. Total cost of an ETW is the bill rate (+ some small margin for time an FTE spent looking for them and the cost to run a procurement process which is spread across 10's of thousands of contractors). There is also the cost of terminating an FTE that is the real reason companies use ETWs. The other main reason is because a lot of time, you need X skill for Y months, and hiring someone with skill X becomes redundant after Y months. The problem with this is Y is never Y, it's always way longer.
@4imv+1skICEfD ETW are not cheap. Don't forget about the agency mark up. I have 10 plus years of experience and a .aster degree and I make 140 at Nike. The ETW in my team has associate degree and one year of experience and the agency bills Nike 100k/ year....
Am an ETW, usually when i come across post or comment like this, i usually go
"Im alr jus an etw cheap labour with no benefits, what else do you want? free?"
It’s so when they need to layoff workers they can let ETWs go without having to inform investors.
Cheap labor, cheap manufacturing and cheap people is what’s left at Nike
But then who is going to work harder and more hours than you for less money?
@1iyg+1skICEfD They do and did, but Nike and FTEs like you care so little about ETWs that they don’t even notice. In November Nike cleared house and cut tons of ETWs from Global and more later from the geos. Unlike people like you, none of them got any kind of severance and probably few got any kind of recognition from the teammates they helped get promoted off their work.
ETWs should go before FTEs.
Because of how much stuff the FTEs mess up all the time. We often come in and fix it. Also, people juat keep having babies, and unless you like a double work load, you need us sometimes.
We don't sell our soul to the devil, just lease it on a temporary basis. Stay crabby! Your type is often the worst to have to work with.
Guess you’ll find out pretty soon when Nike cuts 50%+ of ETWs and work grinds to a halt. Half the reason your salary and benefits are so good is Nike’s over-reliance on cheap contracted labor. The other half is the cheap manufacturing.
Ver funny OP
Not sure why there is so much hate for the ETWs. They work just as hard yet get none of the benefits of an FTE. Sure there are all kinds of ETWs within the company some are more tech based while some are in more operational roles but they can lose their job within no time with no severance in hand. Please be more kind. They hurt just as much about losing their FTE colleagues.
Who will do your job for you then?
