Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Retail Staffing Crisis?

Looks like retail is having a big issue keeping some stores open and staffed. Verizon over played it's hand? Too many people left?

They want clerks not heavy hitters it's that simple if you were making 60k+ before they are trying to get rid of you. They just miscalculated the cost of COVID on staffing and now they are gasping for air.

Our CEO doesn't value individual skill. He sees employees as an overhead expense that can be reduced and easily replaced. Corporate decisions makers see lowered financial profits as the result of sales and service being in the way and eating into profits. Hans believes we are the cause of the problems. It's kind of like when we joke that if we didn't have customers then our daily challenges would be easier. Hans see us as the problem the same as he did when he reduced the hell out of the last company he led. We did need reductions in retail due to the way the business changed but he cut way too deep. We got rid of the foundation to protect the middle management. If you have to play grape vine to relay a message through 3 to 4 layers of people that do nothing but take phone calls then you probably eliminated the wrong people.

You cant open or close a store unless you have a minimum of 3 people. Your store can't even operate unless you have a minimum 3 people.

Nothing will give. Verizon is doing exactly what Verizon wants to do. The store employees will either have to s— it up or quit. Not being mean. That's just the reality.

Verizon needs to knock it off with their version of operation warp speed. They are aggressively making many changes without thinking of the front line workers. Employees getting burned out is going to cause greater issues in the retail stores. My recommendation is to temporarily close one store per district and distribute staffing as needed. This won’t solve all the issues but until they get staffing levels back to a respectable level it’s all they got. If they won’t do this then go back to reduced hours and closed on Sunday. Something has got to give.

@1irs+177FJ8jZ sure feels like you're telling the truth. Under head count stores are replacing 5 full time people for 3, 32hour reps. People that have been doing this job for 15 years coming back after almost 4-6 months of being off don't even know how to do it. What do they expect from a bunch of new hires that use Verizon to work through college or supplement their 3 other gig jobs?

@1acf+177FJ8jZ. Agent stores have individual commission so big difference. Verizon just wants to stress corporate store reps into leaving so the fresh new hires wont know any better. Poor timing on VZW to be understaffed going into 4th quarter.

Wow! This is starting to sound like the indirect agent model. Most agents have 4 employees per a store all working full time . Large stores have 8-10 employees. Typical agent location - one rep open, 1-2 mid that might run to close. They make it work. They do all their own ops, shipping receiving, merch, and then snap and tik tok in between HUM slams.

Crisis is an understatement. Wait until the second round of telesales people leave. They have absolutely no short term plan for staffing issues at the stores. Great way to be proactive!

That’s precisely what our stores are dealing with. We typically have an opening manager and closing manager, but only 2-3 reps for the day. The last hour literally consist of two employees. Please do not let it get busy or all hell breaks loose in that last hour! Is this really what Verizon wanted? Sometimes there are no seconds to even process and cool off after a customer before the manager has already let the next start walking your way! It’s mentally and physically exhausting.

Nope it is what they want! Touchless = Humanless. Next GEN stores will start getting more express store items like touch screen ordering.

Because of staffing issues my store we run on 1 manager and 2-3 reps each day. And we’re not hiring any additional headcount.

So it’s pretty much a cluster Fck everyday. It’s a great employee experience
