Do you guys recommend working for Nike as a SWE? Is the pay + benefits really good there?

Don't listen to these guys... Nike is a great place to work at. Pay+Benefits is really good for Portland :)

The pay is fine if you're an FTE. Not great for companies the size of Nike but good for the Portland area. Benefits are okay, but not super great.

I would say though, the company is very disorganized and software engineers are not really valued by management. Nike is a great place to be a PM of some kind, maybe, but the tech isn't particularly interesting here and management doesn't understand the role. Engineers are given little input over processes, you will be stuck in backwards SAFe scrum ceremonies, and no one who's not an engineer will know the difference between dev work and tech support.

Non technical managers make technical decisions at Nike. Also you're probably better off as a frontend dev here because the number one most important thing is to have something to show off in big meetings, and if your work is not visible to non-technical people management won't acknowledge it. Also, projects are constantly being cancelled and new ones are being created, all the time. Not a lot of stability and you can expect to work on many different things, sometimes a bunch of projects at once. Managers will treat you like a resource they can just point at a any number of projects and get x% of your potential output out and directed at that project

@1ijh+1uwu3OTP by “cutting it” you mean saying yes to whatever absurd your clueless, unprepared boss will ask you?

OP, Nike global technology is far from being an acceptable place to work.

Leaders are lost, there is no ability to prioritize and most of your work won’t make any real impact as projects frequently get cut before they even go live.

It s not that priorities change: there are no priorities and every VP has their pet initiatives focusing only on their resumes.

Yep. Don’t let those who can’t cut it influence you with their complaining and whining. They fear you coming will expose them and lead to their exit early. Just protecting their roles.

Welcome a board! The real members of the swoosh welcome you!

Def don’t join now. Just had massive layoffs and leadership changes on the horizon mean it’ll be at least a year before things remotely stabilize. Job security hella low.
