Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Why fire the head of HR?

I can understand the firing of the president of Aetna. But firing Laurie? Why? How is that going to solve any of CVS’ problems? And how is a McDonald’s executive gonna help anything? It’s Human Resources, not anything related to pharmacy or insurance. I get the idea of an overhaul at Aetna, but axing Laurie is puzzling. Maybe someone who knows more can help fill in the blanks.

Laurie was fired because she had a disagreement with Queen Karen Ly--h, a rather public disagreement. So much for trust an “colleagues”.

or perhaps Laurie was ambivalent about another round of layoffs, so they needed to bring in another su-k up to do the dirty deed?

Stop outsourcing
Pay more
Karen take less
Karen stop hiring hundreds of overly paid managers and focus on the actual workers
Karen stop buying other businesses
Karen.....just leave

I guess corporate doesn't like employees speaking out against low wages and poor working conditions.

@1ifz+1u1QxMPm It might be too late. People are unhappy and bringing in a taskmaster to whip everyone back in line just very well could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

And if she doesn't squash the union push, then what?

Mc Donald’s and Boeing both had strong anti-union pushes….

With all the sh-t going on, I myself would LOVE to find and join a union, and I’m in corporate. He-l if I still had a team and wasn’t all by myself I’d be talking to them today about finding similar teams and unionizing.

My buddies in other areas feel the same way.

The stores have an even higher level of animosity. The writing is on the wall and she was brought in to squash it.

Chief People Officer ? This people, says "who is/was Laurie?"

My guess, another CVS underqualified buddy hire that came from Aetna at some point.

Laurie hire was simply Karen Ly--h taking care of her weird pal. Laurie was always a mess, she couldn’t get out of an open paper bag let alone supervise anyone.

HR was a trainwreck, they should have fired her a week after the disaster that was the workday rollout.

HR doesn’t serve the company or its employees well. That’s on Laurie (or was). Were I a people VP, I would spend a good deal of time on retraining people as job needs shift. It would be less expensive and stressful than layoffs and hiring newcomers. You’re also retaining organizational knowledge and building loyalty. Such things still matter to ethical leaders.
