Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Whistleblower isn’t being listened to

I’ve been trying to whistle blow on the corrupt, toxic behavior at Nike with HR and they won’t do ANYTHING!! I feel like I’m out of options because this needs to be addressed and Nike needs to be held accountable. What should I do?

I’m about 1 week away from talking to news reporters about what I’ve seen because Nike won’t listen/doesn’t care.

If you can remain Anon and go to the media, that’s a better option than HR. I worked for a SD that an entire group in my org reported and started a Matter Of Respect investigation process and nothing, NOT A THING was done except promote the SD and just about all of the group has been “laid off” or moved out of the org. HR is a joke and only out to protect Nike and the ELT

@1ica+1sCzdQBr, the OP just said that he doesn’t want to be identified, so why do you insist?Besides, mods here don’t even allow posting names or other details that could precisely pinpoint identity of a person that isn’t already public figure (e.g. naming CTO is ok, naming a VP, a low-level manager or a coworker isn’t).

Details are important. This is an anonymous board. I’m sure you can share additional general context without risk of being identified…

Reach out to Inti Pacheco (you can find him on LinkedIn) at the Wall Street Journal - they are starting to report on this

I can’t give details because of what I know/my situation is very unique, I’d likely be identified. But let’s just say I worked in GT when RL and all his cronies were there.

Nike has always been like this. All the employees are complaining because their stock options are worthless and their job is no longer guaranteed. Valuable lesson for them to learn. Nike took advantage of cheap labor from Asia, about time all the work gets offshored to Asia as well

Care to explain details of what happened? Hard to give advice POV or advice otherwise

It seems like the only way to effect positive change at Nike is to sue them. They can't be bothered to Do The Right Thing when their own people who are invested in the success of the company are whistleblowing. Hit em where it hurts: the money.

I also reported to HR about Nike's toxicity, brought on by the RAT and his Kohls gang. I was pushed out in favor of the Kohls cronies when I wouldn't go along with my boss's shady ways. I had email and slack messages to back up my case. An investigation was done, and my boss got wind of it, so he went on sudden medical leave to avoid his fate. Eventually, he was pushed out, but his Kohls cronies took my place and are operating in the same crooked manner. The difference is now they are smart enough not to put it in writing. Apparently, this is how they roll at Kohls, so they think this is normal and acceptable.

I went to Business Insider with my story. I sought the advice of a lawyer, who said if Nike chose to fight this, I would be bled dry. I decided to leave.

To OP and the others who spoke up, good for you all for doing the right thing. You probably suffered a great personal cost for doing this. Sometimes our only reward is knowing that we preserved our sense of integrity in doing the right thing.

The toxic environment at Nike is a feature, not a bug. Maybe you get lucky and you're with a group that isn't like that, but you're likely get reorged into one that's a complete sh*tshow and you're only option is to leave. You will never change that aspect of Nike.

If you didn’t waive your right to sue when you signed that severance agreement . SUE THEIR AS--S. A class action is coming, i feel it

If anyone wants to talk to the media, google RL (use real name) business insider. Download the signal app (encrypted messaging app), sign up, and you can message that reporter directly through the app. It’s safe and encrypted.

OP here. I was laid off already so I have no fear of what they’ll do since they laid me off. It’s definitely retaliation because I was told I was with the future of Nike during my phase one conversation and then got laid off during phase 2. I also recorded my layoff meeting (it’s legal in Oregon for phone calls) where I asked why I was told I was with the future of Nike and they didn’t say anything except the CTO blah blah blah. Plus evidence of reporting stuff to the speak up portal and asking if the followed up with the teammate and was told HR and legal were notified. They never came and spoke to me about what happened. And I have evidence via email saying I was retaliated against and people solutions not taking any actions and closing a case I opened.

Good luck with HR, but be prepared to leave the company. I reported toxic behavior of co-worker through Speak up portal, it was investigated but nothing happened, except the toxic employee was promoted. A little over a year later I was laid off. I am glad to be away from the toxic work culture, but still surprised that Nike allows it to continue, rather than “do the right thing”.

Don’t wait for Nike to respond. They only act when there is brand impact. Talk to media asap

If you can be anonymous go to the media, i am sure more folks will step up to tell the truths about this bad behavior. There has been so much since the phase 1 and 2 reorg.
