Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Does your manager gets notified that you volunteered for VSP?

If yes, when ? Immediately after your sign up, or after the sign-up window closes ?

No your boss and bosses won’t know until Aug 13 who selected VSP. I talked to my exec director and he said he doesn’t even know either. It goes to HR and then notify your boss on Aug 13th if you’ve been selected for VSP and your off date. Pretty interesting!

I talked to HR about this and they confirmed that your direct manager is not notified when you opt in.

I informed my manager. It seemed like the right thing to do, not trying to f anyone over, just looking out for myself. I'm retirement age anyway so I'm sure they had a pretty good idea.

Your manager doesn't approve anything. Accept/Deny will be done by HR and executive leadership at the end of the volunteer period. Period.

My manager seemed to know first thing that I volunteered and said they approved it but didn’t know what would happen further down the line.
Since there is no reason to keep me the only reason they could conceivably block it is headcount which I hope isn’t possible.

Last time they offered this a director called and talked me out of it before the window was closed. So yes they know.

Management won’t find out until after the close date 07/26. They will be able to offer input, but won’t have final say. Those who apply will most likely be approved.

@1fmg - Hahaha... it was meant more to help you understand who those people are not what they do. We know they dont actually lead. It's not clear if direct management will know or if it will start higher up first. I wouldn't be surprised if managers don't find out until the same time their people find out if they were accepted or not.

I'm changing my answer to 'once you hit that button they know if they can see it in your face or hear it in your voice' If you are all of sudden calm and happy then they know that you did it

@htw "your leadership"? - chuckle. Stop being so subservient to people that neither deserve it nor have earned it.
Grow a pair, and stop being a peon. Instead strive to be an adult, rather than a child with a parent. Don't succumb to their earthly, undeserved self-titles.

They know once the idea starts germinating within your head - they're that good.
Usually they notice your wanting out sometime during the first hour of your NCSD.

Imagine they didn’t and one day you just stop signing in.
