A few years back a couple of us were turned down for promotions due to diversity quotas. Words like “you’d get promoted if you were female” came out. Is it worth trying for a promotion again as a “non diverse” candidate, whatever that actually means?

Let’s call a spade a spade, you sound like you’re saying the company turns down people for promotion because they are a white male. I wouldn’t doubt that with all these diversity months and programs like women of the world or wireless or whatever the hell they’re calling it these days. I wouldn’t mind losing to a candidate if they’re were more qualified. However if someone said to me that I would have been promoted if I were female or a minority or what so ever. I’d ask for a copy of the interview notes and go straight to a lawyer. And make sure you have a witness there. I’ve seen first hand managers treating employees like meat as well as HR backing management when they were blatantly wrong on so many levels. HR is there to protect Verizon not you , a lawyer will protect you. And you’d be shocked how often these cases happen and are settled out of court
As someone who has been promoted three times in non retail roles and one with direct reports, I have not seen this “diversity quota”. In fact one of the Sr.Mgr that was in the non diversified group. I see non diverse male managers promoted all the time. However, as a hiring manager before, there is a preference with diversity and it has also has been remarked by HR. Which in many cases, a hypocrisy because I have seen HR teams basically made up of one specific gender. In upper and senior leadership, the diversity model could be used as a marketing ploy and stance but operating and day to day leadership I have not seen. Education, networking, skills, talent are still key to getting promoted. Get your experience up! You might have to take a pay cut from retail and get into one of the coordinators or analyst roles. But doesn’t an analyst sound better on a resume than retail solution specialist? You can do it! Use VZ to get those titles and experience. Don’t get stuck and blame others for your careers.
I’ve seen favoritism, but I’ve never seen someone hired over another because of a “diversity quota”. Some of us have just had bad bosses that don’t develop and promote employees. Call it what it is... poor leadership and cronyism.
Don’t blame it on something like a “diversity quota”. Just makes you look intolerant.
I bet y'all are POC who got promoted? Just a guess.
Prob got promoted by another POC who didn't even give the white male a chance because he has had handouts his whole life? Yeah sorry I haven't networked like you have you know at your family reunion where you got all your family hired.
Exactly what @1ecy said. This is such a poor attempt at trolling...
lol! You think the only reason you didn’t get promoted was because your lack of diversity?! If you actually believed that and were told that, you would have sued.
So get real with yourself. The competition did a better job networking.
Lol no
It's still a total waste of time
