Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

All actual SMEs have left

If you are still here you are not smart enough to pursue other (better) opportunities. And while you might think you are an SME, any new hire can learn your job.

This is how you know this place is extremely toxic …. The leadership has SME’s and newbies fighting on a layoff site….RIDICULOUS

Being a SME In my part of the company is more than just the software. Your immediate assumption it’s just about software betrays your lack of experience and understanding of how the business should actually be run. Mo--n.

You cannot become a cardiologist in 10 years or less. You also have to finish in top percentage of you med class to specialize in cardiology. You however, could be an astronaut in 10 years or less, well maybe not you. I have a feeling you're the chump.

You are the one going to be stuck supporting that software, not us. Not after the layoff.

10 years to be an SME for some poorly written software? Not sure I'd admit that. You could be a cardiologist in less than 10 years. Well, maybe not you.

LOL I assure I’m a SME, and I assure you no newbie can learn my job unless they put in 10 + years learning it.

There are still some SME’s left but in the next year they will either retire or be let go due to being remote. BH is hiring people straight out of college to replace people with years of experience. It’s a joke , these kids will have no one to learn from.

The newbies don't learn anything without the input of the remaining SMEs. As their numbers dwindle, the newbies ability to become SMEs is drastically reduced. Some disciplines have already lost all SMEs or are about to when the next round of 'it's your turn now' communications go out.
Given that the stated goal is to reduce product count drastically in the next five years, the newbies are on a ship that's already sinking. Once they understand the pile they've stepped into I imagine they will be on their way with their new found 'experience',

OP is correct. You weren't sh-t out of your mother's womb knowing this stuff. They can learn it just like you did. The issue will be the "quality" of the new hire. Depending on that, the OP is off. Way off.

@OP+1qFoHCsq - YOU will never be an SME of anything. Stay away from this site and continue playing your video games. BTW, how's living in your parents basement?

Seriously, 100% the SME are dwindling. But there are still a few if you so close to retirement that we are holding on to finish on our terms, or catch the next RIF fir severance.

Soon, I will agree with you because they will all get let go, or age out.

God help our clients.

Well, they can't learn the job of a SME....because none are left to teach it.
