Thread regarding Kyndryl layoffs

Kyndryl Consult

Can anyone describe what this new group Kyndryl Consult is all about? A recruiter said they can pay up to $375k. Sounds like a Band 10 role.

Is that group trying to be like IBM GBS? Or Accenture/McKinsey consulting? More important, why would an infrastructure company need a consulting arm?

Kyndryl consult is an attempt to embed "consultants" into clients to be sellers. The $375k OTE is base + incentive pay. The base pay is around $225-$250 with the rest being performance. They are looking for people with classic management consulting experience to command respect from clients; however, if these people have a job already they are likely making more than $375k at a firm KNOWN for consulting.

@4ids - As long as the legacy IBMers are still in Kyndryl and managing the overall strategy, expect Kyndryl Consult to fail. Those legacy people are precisely the ones that drove IBM and into the ground. GTS is losing money because of them.

As long as the legacy IBMers are sticking around, expect the whole KD and Kyndryl Consult to fail.

Kyndryl occurred long after my time, but back in the day GBS had all the strategy consultants and GTS focused on service delivery and implementation. It would make sense for Kyndryl to aspire to strategy consulting, if only because focusing on pure implementation and maintenance won't be a big enough offering to pay the bills. However, there is the longer-term question of whether or not Kyndryl can really extend itself to fill that role, and compete with the other players in that space (IBM GBS, Accenture, McKinsey, etc.)

The majority of open positions posted in workday are Consult positions, but they just keep pushing out the position start dates so it seems they aren't able to drum up a lot of consulting engagements to need staff for.

@2ojx+1nqpLs7G it's short term implementation work as opposed to the long term managed services work.

@1ctw - So is the new Kyndryl Consult trying to compete with IBM GBS, Accenture Consulting and McKinsey? What would the new group advise customers on -- cloud migration strategy, application modernization strategy, etc? Doesn't Kyndryl (GTS) already have consultants who can do that?

Has anybody heard, rumors of a second layoff. I am currently in our Raleigh office. I am surrounded by a bunch of very nervous co-workers. The murmuring, that is the most pervasive. Kendryl is hemorrhaging money with a quickness. The third quarter is when they pull the plug on a bunch of departments and workers. Pretty much any job that can be offshored or AI can augment will be on the chopping block.

RE: “why would an infrastructure company need a consulting arm?“

Evolution- read the Earnings, they’re losing money on infrastructure managed services.
