Here's the email I just sent to Frank.
Tuesday, September 5th will be my final day at Fiserv after 15 years. If you would have asked me back in January, if I’d ever leave, I would have said no. I loved the work I did and the people I worked with, both internally and externally at the banks we service, plus I am really damn good at my job. I have been working a hybrid role (3x2) model and have been doing so, very successfully I might add, for over a decade. My wife and I are building a house in the town where she teaches, which is over an hour away from my office. We started that home building process in February, under the impression that I’d still be able to work that hybrid role and that I could either continue to drive into Lincoln a few days a week or transfer into an office in Omaha, should that be an option. Then you pulled that out from under us in April with the one-sized fits all RTO mandate along with the mandate that you had to be in the same office as your direct manager.
That decision was the last straw for me. I have worked for this company for 15 years and all the leaders have done is take and take and take from the employees. When I started in 2008, I was getting a full 6% match on my 401k contributions. Now it sits at 3%. In addition, the company would make discretionary profit sharing contributions to our 401k annually, should we hit performance goals. That was taken away due to the economic collapse that fall. It was told to us that it was temporary, but that was a lie. We used to get annual bonuses. That was taken away. We used to get 15% discount on company stock. That’s been slashed. We used to get a company cell phone. Poof. Gone. You even took away our right to our own bodies by forcing employees to get vaccinated or be fired. The latest thing you’ve taken away is the flexibility of management to run their business units as they see fit by allowing flex working arrangements, when needed. Just a few weeks ago, I had to take PTO instead of being allowed to work from home, due to my wife starting her school year before the kids. In the year 2023, that is absolutely ridiculous.
You sat there and lied to us, over and over, about being supportive of flex working arrangements and how they’ll always have a place in this company. We simply don’t trust you or your word. You obviously don’t trust us or your managers either, as you’ve installed spyware on our computers and have begun tracking our every movement, in and out of buildings. Our managers spend more time being glorified hall monitors than actually managing their teams.
You have compared us to McDonalds and Walmart employees. You have called us spoiled. You are ki-ling this company from the inside out by destroying our morale. Your poor decisions have gutted our talent, leaving our customers with new hires to try and answer complex problems. You claim that the customers want us in the office, but again, that is another lie. They don’t care where the he-l we work. They just want someone to help them. Someone with knowledge. They don’t care if it’s in Berkley Heights, Lincoln, or Siberia. I’ve watched hundreds and hundreds of years of knowledge and expertise leave this company in the last 6 months and there is more to come. I know a bunch of people that are just waiting for the right opportunity. You might think we are just burger flippers or grocery baggers, but I promise you we aren’t. You can’t simply replace that knowledge with some kid fresh out of college.
I’m excited to begin working at a software company that is family owned and actually cares and supports its employees, with its actions and not just lip service. I’m excited to work for a CEO that keeps his promises and doesn’t lie to us. I’m excited to not have to worry about what benefit my CEO is going to take away from us next. I’m going to miss the people I work with and I know I’m leaving my team in a bad spot, but at the end of the day, I have to work for a company that I believe in. I have to have leadership that I believe in and trust that they care about me and other employees and that simply does not exist with you or this company any longer.
