Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Dear Frank. It's not me, it's you

Here's the email I just sent to Frank.

Tuesday, September 5th will be my final day at Fiserv after 15 years. If you would have asked me back in January, if I’d ever leave, I would have said no. I loved the work I did and the people I worked with, both internally and externally at the banks we service, plus I am really damn good at my job. I have been working a hybrid role (3x2) model and have been doing so, very successfully I might add, for over a decade. My wife and I are building a house in the town where she teaches, which is over an hour away from my office. We started that home building process in February, under the impression that I’d still be able to work that hybrid role and that I could either continue to drive into Lincoln a few days a week or transfer into an office in Omaha, should that be an option. Then you pulled that out from under us in April with the one-sized fits all RTO mandate along with the mandate that you had to be in the same office as your direct manager.

That decision was the last straw for me. I have worked for this company for 15 years and all the leaders have done is take and take and take from the employees. When I started in 2008, I was getting a full 6% match on my 401k contributions. Now it sits at 3%. In addition, the company would make discretionary profit sharing contributions to our 401k annually, should we hit performance goals. That was taken away due to the economic collapse that fall. It was told to us that it was temporary, but that was a lie. We used to get annual bonuses. That was taken away. We used to get 15% discount on company stock. That’s been slashed. We used to get a company cell phone. Poof. Gone. You even took away our right to our own bodies by forcing employees to get vaccinated or be fired. The latest thing you’ve taken away is the flexibility of management to run their business units as they see fit by allowing flex working arrangements, when needed. Just a few weeks ago, I had to take PTO instead of being allowed to work from home, due to my wife starting her school year before the kids. In the year 2023, that is absolutely ridiculous.

You sat there and lied to us, over and over, about being supportive of flex working arrangements and how they’ll always have a place in this company. We simply don’t trust you or your word. You obviously don’t trust us or your managers either, as you’ve installed spyware on our computers and have begun tracking our every movement, in and out of buildings. Our managers spend more time being glorified hall monitors than actually managing their teams.

You have compared us to McDonalds and Walmart employees. You have called us spoiled. You are ki-ling this company from the inside out by destroying our morale. Your poor decisions have gutted our talent, leaving our customers with new hires to try and answer complex problems. You claim that the customers want us in the office, but again, that is another lie. They don’t care where the he-l we work. They just want someone to help them. Someone with knowledge. They don’t care if it’s in Berkley Heights, Lincoln, or Siberia. I’ve watched hundreds and hundreds of years of knowledge and expertise leave this company in the last 6 months and there is more to come. I know a bunch of people that are just waiting for the right opportunity. You might think we are just burger flippers or grocery baggers, but I promise you we aren’t. You can’t simply replace that knowledge with some kid fresh out of college.

I’m excited to begin working at a software company that is family owned and actually cares and supports its employees, with its actions and not just lip service. I’m excited to work for a CEO that keeps his promises and doesn’t lie to us. I’m excited to not have to worry about what benefit my CEO is going to take away from us next. I’m going to miss the people I work with and I know I’m leaving my team in a bad spot, but at the end of the day, I have to work for a company that I believe in. I have to have leadership that I believe in and trust that they care about me and other employees and that simply does not exist with you or this company any longer.

I realize that this post is over six months old but I took the time to find it because I believe it is one of the best written posts and resonates with many of us who took great pride in our work; how we rallied to support our clients and how we worked together as a team (long before Teams)!

May we all do whatever it is what we need to do for our families and loved ones, even if staying put or relocating is our only option to support our families. If we are in a position to leave, let us appreciate those we leave behind.

Nice to see Frank and his minions took this email to heart and changed course...lol. Nope. They instead tripled down with this id--tic Centers of Excellence, or perhaps should be Centers of Bullsh-t, because that is what is going to be spewed to clients calling in with issues. I talked to several people on my old team who are going to start sending out resume's soon. I'm not sure what Frank's end game is with bank solutions, but he's successfully gutting all of the SME and knowledge there.

As the OP here, I know that Frank most likely will never see the letter and if he did, he didn't give two sh--s and in fact, was probably proud. I don't really care. It was more to get that off of my chest and to tell him "fu-k you" on the way out the door.

The chain of command underneath him most definitely read it though (received a call from one of them) and that's good enough for me. They need to fully understand what's happening on the front lines so they aren't surprised when they lose 50 to 75% of their experienced staff.

As for the post saying I'm an "emotional weakling", that made me literally laugh out loud. I'm a pretty crusty old fu-k, so take that for whatever it's worth. I just wanted people to see that I told the CEO he su-ked on the way out. I just hope others follow my lead.

Attrition is a strategic imperative for Fiserv

I think it's a good letter. Concise, lucid, makes several honest and good points. However, you proceed from a false assumption if you think that it will make any and I mean any different to Frank the tank. It will not. However, if you feel better for sending it, then it was worth doing.

I am a few short months from being in a position to submit my retirement paperwork. I will serve my clients to the best of my abilities until my final logoff and will feel bad for the great people I will leave behind.

But the people who truly appreciated my contributions are long gone.

The sad fact is the board belongs to Frank. They're all benefiting from his reign of te---r.

Frank: You think that I care? Nice another peasant who thinks I will care about him? On top of that another severance package saved plus unvested stock options back to the company!

They have also taken away on-call pay and the freedom of choosing your own wallpaper.

I see the real authentic survey results are on this site. The fabricated survey results are on the Fiserv internal website. We'll time for me to get back to work. We have no work life balance at Fiserv.

Very nicely said and the sad thing is that it’s all true. I keep thinking the board will catch a clue and get rid of Frank but that hasn’t happened. Yet! Best of luck to you.

Lol that’s pitiful. You basically validated the fact that he doesn’t need emotional weaklings like yourself. He won’t even see it. His secretary will delete that before she can even finish laughing. Novel resignation letters are embarrassing. Goodluck at the new job though.

"Amazing letter. I hope you CCd some people as well so it can't be hidden."

I did. Hit the chain of command all the way up.

Beautifully said and completely accurate. After almost 20 years I’m leaving as well. I thought I would retire from Fiserv but senior leadership proves over and over they have zero appreciation for employees and eventually enough is enough.

Frank probably laughed and said "peasant" before clicking delete
I can't wait to see him bury this company.
That will be his legacy.

Well written, and agree with everything you said. I’m here for 30 years, and where I was once happy and proud to work here, I’m now more ashamed than anything. Sad part is, he will probably j**k off all over that letter. Sorry for the vulgar mental image, but I feel that is exactly what he and his d-mba$$ minions want us to feel, to be so disgusted that we leave on our own. They don’t even have the ba11s to do it themselves,or more likely the funds for any severance.
