Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Accepted telesales job now i dont want it

This past Thursday i informed my SM and DM that i wanted to opt out of not taking the telesales job i accepted 2 weeks ago. After waiting until late Thursday to hear back i finally did and was told if i stay with the retail store it will only be 32 hours. No fighting it. WTF !!! HR dept was zero help and confirmed since i accepted the job they can not break the rules.

You don't accept a job offer and then decline it. Grow up, Good luck ever getting another job offer from Verizon after this.

Congratulations, you’re not back to wearing a mask and making no money. Dumb. SMH

Pulling a stunt like that endears you to no one. When they start slashing staff again, guess who will be first?

OP here with final update. I was basically given wrong information from my DM last Friday regarding my inability to stay a– at 40 hours a week. I did speak to HR and the director of my area who confirmed that I was able to decline taking the telesales offer. The DM was shady about the whole thing and I believe he just wanted me gone to alleviate the 40 hours in his district. So yeah I’m officially staying in the retail store at 40 hours.

Here's the thing. Even if you accept a role, you are still officially a solutions specialist until your definitive start date. End of story. If you have not officially started training yet, you are still a 40 hour retail employee. So if you back out of the offer, it's like nothing happened. Period.

Now if you HAVE started training, you are then an official telesales employee and then yes there's not much leg to stand on there unfortunately.

So if your situation is the former you need to reach out to somebody higher up in HR because they cannot force you into a 32 hour role if you are still a retail employee

The entire thing is a clusterf–k. I got a call from the person that did my interview congratulating me and told me I would get an offer letter. he asked if I was still interested in telesales I said yes. According to some senior manager in Connecticut.. who is downright rude and unprofessional.. she told me I accepted the offer verbally over the phone. No one in the right mind would accept a job without knowing the salary. I don't know what they're going to tell me next but I said I didn't accept any offer because I didn't get an offer.

It's not a sham. Those are the rules. So instead of complaining (which won't change a thing), make a decision. 32 hour employee in retail, telesales full time or leave the company for other opportunities.

@1chd+171CsN8O Maybe the OP is one of those heavy hitters that thought telesales was going to be some great gravy train. Working from home is a major job change and I’m sure hundreds of reps rushed decisions fueled by empty opportunity. You are correct they don’t want top performers in the retail stores but not because of your reasons. They want as many full time people to leave so they can restructure the staffing to mostly part timers 32/24 hour work weeks. Everyone is just a number now and talent doesn’t matter....obviously. I think if the OP doesn’t even have a training date set and is still working in the store there is zero reason to not let him/her reverse a probably baited decision.

Sounds like they didn't want you in retail to begin with or your management team would not have tried to get rid of you. Let me get this straight, You took a job that the 1st requirement was being on the phone all day then you realized that you didn't want to be on the phone?? Wow! Then you come here to complain and want people to feel sorry for your dumb decision?? I would bet my commission checks for the next 12 months that you are not a good employee with little to contribute. This is addition by subtraction for all those around you. Sorry a stranger had to tell you.

OP here......The thing is even though I accepted the telesales job it was never confirmed when my training start date would be so i will be working in the retail store until then. I changed my mind because i can’t see myself sitting at home on the phone hours on end taking one call after another. At this point I’m basically stuck and have really no choice but to try telesales. I know the money will be a little better then at the store but i know three people who work telesales and all of them didn’t make quota last month. They also work ridiculous shifts and never have Saturday off unless they request it. I let the DM talk me into trying it but I feel like it’s a sham that I can’t change my mind unless I go to 32 hours.

Sorry, but we all knew the rules going into this. What do you want them to do? Let everyone change their mind?

Why would you want to go back to retail then actually make money in telesales?

You should have taken the severance if you got offered it. Best decision I've made. Telesales or retail, it's not sustainable.. don't let this schamdemic scare you. Don't be ruled by fear from any perspective.

Sorry about that. You knew the rules. There are no more full time retail jobs. You leave full time you can never go back. The fact that you accepted the new position means you left the job. Sounds like you better give telesales a try if you need to work full time.
