I might be getting a bump in my grade from SG6 to SG7, what percentage of raise should I ask for? I heard I should push for 8-10 percent increase.

@16p+1kjvhkpnv No they did not say that but there were clear consistent pushes from them to promote the sg5 thru sg7. There were zero pushes to promote any sg8.
The sg8 to promotion ll6 is totally controlled by the FnF people leaders.
The people leaders game the system to satisfy HR requirements.
For example they push sg8s that they have no intention of promoting to repeatedly apply for LL6 positions so they can meet HR rules about interviewing a certain number of applicants with a certain diversity profile. Then they give the promotion to the preselected candidate. I felt bad for one Asian who thought the leadership team really wanted to promote him as they kept asking him to apply for LL6 positions. The guy took to heart all their BS reasons for rejections - don’t have an MBA (he got one), too hard to understand as he an accent (he joined toastmasters and practiced speaking), not social enough (he joined Ford clubs), didn’t present well (he upgraded his wardrobe), and so on.
He ended up getting pushed out in his 50s.
He got another job and was promoted twice in a 5 year span without even asking for a promotion.
@16p HR does a lot of very sh---y things. Need to find yourself the good ones that believe in transparency.
@v1 , HR said that? That makes sense with what I see.
you'll get the SG name change... that's all. No money.
@tk Just to GSR8. HR is fine with you staying a GSR8 for years until you retire or are pushed out due to age.
Do they do this to you if you are just not a GSR8 or do they try to get you to LL6 if you are a long standing GSR8?
@j4 dude who did you torque off? HR would have been hounding your management to move you up a pay grade for years. And they would of had to justify NOT promoting you to a GSR8 or NOT pushing you out the door or into a more suitable position.
Are you just a glutton for punishment or what?
@j4 Why would you stick around? Desperate or just poor skills?
@gv I agree. When I was bumped from a 6 to a 7, I didn't get promoted again for 20 years.
@g3 And get cut back to a 1 hr. Workweek!
You don't decide what you get. Your people leader decides what. you get.
This was a few years ago, but I did promote a few folks and recall the maximum I could give was 5%. I would tell you what I got when I went to SG7 but I don't want you to cry.
Just take what they give you and move on. You might want to start looking. I know it sounds backwards but that's how Ford operates. All higher pay does for you there is out a bigger target on your back for "re-orgs". Careful. Keep the network warm and get what you can in the meantime.
You will get $1 more per hour.
Zero input asked, desired, or even considered from yourself.
Congratulations!
@OP Sinne you will only get 1 chance. Swallow as much as you can!
@OP there is no negotiation. HR has rules and your management structure will have additional rules about the % that can be given. Your LL6 will have been told the max % that can be requested and be approved. The LL6 will plug in that amount into the paperwork. I’ve had colleagues that ignored the % and entered more for the person they wanted to promote and their promotion requests are rejected. Then they loudly complain and of course the underling who was not promoted wonders why their coworkers are getting promoted but they are not.
So you do you, but that is how the system works. Source=20 yrs as LL6 at F
Other little tidbit, once promoted you will be lower in the pay band and so the HR formula will give you higher increases in subsequent years to get you to the mid point in the band.
@OP. Try to hit the middle of the SG7 band. Too much can be bad for your stay at Ford :D
Congrats and good luck!
You think you get to negotiate?
Do not push fora raise. Just happily accept whatever they give you.
Your promotion is a severance package on this site ! lol You will get -125k looking for another job for 12 or more months.
