Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Time to look in the mirror…

As we continue to fail and refuse to adapt to the market, Canon Inc should take a second to look in the mirror.

As a company that prides themselves on being an innovator, what new technology have they released.

When scanning became important we partnered with Ecopy. Not a Canon product.

When document management took off we came out with one of the biggest failures this company has ever seen, imageWare DM.

When that failed and we missed the boat, we bought Therefore. Not a Canon product.

As document security became important, we bought NT Ware. Not a Canon product.

Cyber Security? Partner with ACS.

Need a vacuum for the office to replace the cleaning crew? Call Canon. We sell someone else’s vacuum but you can get it from us.

Add Barracuda, Vera, and a host of other software manufacturers we have partnered with and I ask “Where are all the innovations and patents we hear about?”

We have relied on other technologies and it is now catching up with us. Print is down and things are becoming digital over night.

So I ask all of you posting, what has Canon Inc released recently that has your customers calling. The bottom line is all of these partnerships and acquisitions add up but are they benefitting us?

Think about it. We wanted a medical division so we bought Toshiba Medical. We wanted to manufacture chips. We bought one.

Sad but true.

@16d the vacuum was the brainchild of Kiy…i Oka. The most underqualified EVP in the history of any company. He is the epitome of everything wrong with this company. I spent 2 minutes with him and instantly knew he was clueless. Yet he’s been promoted over and over because he has the most important qualification at this company which is “he’s Japanese”. I hate this place.

Whoever came up with the idea to sell a vacuum has never heard of the term “core competency”. Does the vacuum take photos of your carpet? Does it print out a report of the carpet’s quality? If that’s the outcome of all that “collaboration” time, then Canon is beyond repair. Canon should start selling salami sandwiches, condoms, pajamas and hammers while we’re at it.

The non-Canon branded "vacuum" has become quite a joke. I understand that someone had a good “idea” years ago to give it a try, but whose bright idea is it to keep this unpopular and embarrassing product associated with Canon?

I don't think its an issue when a company buys another company for growth or competitive situations. The problem here is what they do with that purchase and how the merger and acquisition take place. One only has to look at the purchase or OCe the production printing equipment group. That division has been in a silo for years and is now losing out to HP. Most of the equipment focus on transactional print and have never transitioned to commercial print. All the old OCe employees cry for the days of old when they could spend, spend, spend and are now on a gravy train. Maybe come July, Melville will finally gut the fat in BOCA and maybe Japan will finally gut Venlo and complete the merger like they should have years ago.

@OP We can't even keep stock of the things we DO make. Honestly, with the clear logistics & storage struggles Canon is having, probably best to distribute or buyout other options. Things like this happen when top-tier management takes 6 months to make a decision and are more concerned with their travel schedules than cohesive day-to-day operation.
