Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle listed as one of the best places for growth. Believe it?

I know people at Oracle that haven't grown in 10-20 years. Like same position. This article came across my feed. I was just curious if people think it's true. Only way I saw people get promoted when I was there was to kiss butt and back stab.

I came up through Oracle through the BDC world, and it was the most miserable two years of my existence, due to all of the lying, cheating, and backstabbing that happened for monetary gain from 22 year olds.

After two years I was afforded the opportunity to switch roles into what is now my dream job. My point is that I am forever grateful for Oracle, for providing me the ability to have corporate mobility and find my dream job.

I also have met some of the most brilliant personalities, despite none of them having flashy college degrees I.e. no ivy’s.

I absolutely do not think it’s an Oracle problem ; I think the issue in this thread is with your immediate managers being cr-ppy. You can’t make an extrapolation for an entire fortune company based on certain individuals

(I also don’t like Larry Ellison at all so I’m not a bootlicker )

The person who said it was a delayed April Fool's joke....I'm cracking up. That's so great. Yeah. Oracle is a career k-il-ler.

This was published April 8th 2025 /and I’m almost 100% certain this was a delayed April 1st fools joke.

If you stay at Oracle for more than 5 years you’re on a path to get significantly poorer with each year.

Don’t fall for it.

OP here...I was at Oracle for almost 2 decades. Not only are these comments spot on, they sure did make me laugh and I thank you all for that. I love that folks can realize what something is and still see the humor/irony of it. I dontt talk to anyone from my old Oracle unit. What's left are same mgmt been there for decades and all the smart worker bees moved on to better opps. Thanks.

"Oracle listed as one of the best places for growth."

Perhaps growth of a malignant tumor, or abscess?

If you want to grow your career, you need to go to a startup or a much smaller company. Oracle is just too big for reliable career growth. You may get lucky, but it's unlikely. Your odds are much better at a smaller place.

I would say that very few people can develop and grow their career at Oracle. Get what you can from it and move on before you get stuck there.

Constant re-orgs effectively reset any hard-earned kudos. Management has no plan for you. They’re either trying to keep themselves under the radar or planning to backstab others to climb the ladder.

I’ve heard every excuse under the sun to avoid promotions and raises. They keep you at an arms length, they don’t want to see you grow. They only want you to keep doing what you’re doing, for the same money, for as long as possible while demanding more and more from the role you signed up for. That’s the game. I’m not complaining about it, it’s just an observation. If you expect too much from Oracle you’re going to be disappointed.

Believe it or not, but I worked for far worse companies than Oracle in previous 2 decades. It heavily depends on the department, I guess.

Isn't an article/publicity stunt worth the purchase from a commercial company when ORCL reputation among employees is below the bottom of sea floor.
