Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Possible Reorg ?

With all of ETWs being laid off, closing Rewards program, does anyone know if there is going to be reorg soon within Nike ?

Will Engineering or Product be affected ? Which org might get affected ?

If only Nike didn't continue to coemploy ETWs in perpetuity that support essential workstreams. My team in has a team of 80% ETWs with 2-10 year histories. The constant dangling of the "conversion carrot" is what keeps us here--- and the work we very much enjoy doing.

Layoffs and re-org will be the norm for the rest of Nike's natural life. Way too many people working on duplicate projects and the product is garbage. The only thing that made Nike cool was the brand and that shine is gone forever.

I know my org is growing g the ETW force and finally getting rid of all the FTEs. Outsourcing most of the work to the glorious ITC!

Anyone heard of an “SOP” “ETW”? Yeah not easy to get rid of. Steer clear if you can.

@jf+1jsnsn3j8 We are losing high-paid, highly skilled ETWs on a Managed Contract, some have been here around 10 years. Losing them, moving their role to ITC for cost-savings is going to be a wreck.

How dare you cut my ETWs? You’re making me do real work! How dare you?

Pretty sure y’all are grouping a ton of different types of ETWs together.

There are ETWs that are team extensions, consultants. And agencies, these tend to cost the most and be the least effective.

There are also medical and mat leave ETWs or fill a gap while we get the headcount ETWs, usually for U band and below (40 and under) those tend to be pretty cheap as we are paying like $30-60/hour and no benefits and much less expensive than an FTE.

Anyone who hires an ETW should be fired

If only FTEs did their jobs, we wouldn’t need ETWs, even government employees work more than 10am-3pm

GT ETWs are being replaced with ITC workers. Perception is that it costs less. Nobody has costed out the hours trying to manage those relationships, trying to get work done with 12+ hour time difference, context switching, ramping up ITC workers.

No knowledge transfer plan is in place. Some ETWs been on managed contracts for 10+ years. Disaster awaits.

It's ridiculously inefficient and NOT cost-effective.

I like ETW's. Anytime I want to pay $300 per hour for an opinion that has less value than an entry-level engineer that costs $50 per hour, while ignoring my actual tenured FTE engineers which cost me another $150 per hour and actually care about the company and know the business, I'll hire an ETW.

But then again I'm fvcklng stupid, so...

ETWs cost more short term, but easy to get rid of vs FTEs which takes many months to figure out and then the severance packages. ETWs don't have severance packages. Early termination penalties yes... but in the grand scheme way cheaper than FTE costs.

@bk+1jsnsn3j8 ETW CUTS DONT SAVE FTE CUTS OR WE WOULDN’T HAVE ETWS.

Nike often cuts FTEs to remove expensive, permanent costs — and then backfills with cheaper, flexible ETWs. I’d say it’s more likely we continue to clean up some redundant orgs and backfill with ETWs and entry level roles

As is every public company. shareholders by large are backing DEI efforts and rejecting proposals to remove them.

Just look at Goldman Sachs

Which org? Literally none of the ETWs I know are being impacted. Two just had contracts extended to December.

heard this morning that MF is finally shuttering the useless DH transformation org that has delivered zero value.

That is 100+ bloated FTE consultant salaries off from payroll.

Good riddance

Inflated headcount isn’t at this moment and time, we’re about 8,000 workers less than we were back in 2015 globally.

There can always be more cuts but inflated, we are not.

Every year around this time (or earlier) they do an "ETW sweep" for unknown to me budget reasons. Like literally every single year.

New CEO always means a restructure in 6-12 months and the company has inflated headcount with waste. I hope they rip off the bandage soon if they do anything.

Just remember ETW often cut to save FTE cuts. So be thankful sometimes the impact is on ETW.
