Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The way I see EM today

  • EM will drain your energy
  • You're just a numbr
  • benefits will continue to shrink
  • U will be watched constantly
  • gossip is survival currenc
  • Trust no one at work
  • Your words will be used
  • One mistake can end you
  • PIP is always hanging over you
  • Ranking always turns teammates into rivals
  • reviews are we-ponized against employees
  • Silence = the safest strategy
  • Speaking carries cost
  • Fear is control
  • Everyone is watching ONLY their own a-s
  • Peers are potential informants
  • Mentors are not safe (anymore)
  • Mgrs want constant survival anxiety
  • Campus morale is sh-t
  • Happiness is gone
  • Dignity got stripped away 100%
  • Everyone wants u to leave
  • Execs = greed; want you to leave
  • Pressure will keep increasing, this is something u can bet on
  • Everyone is looking for exits

@119 In my first 1:1 with my first manager he started trashing one of the teammates (he was PIPed out that year) and telling me he is not representing his team. I was shocked and couldn't believe what I was hearing. When the manager promotes this type of behavior...........

Look at the fear in the faces. No one will talk to anyone. It is like living under surveillance under sta lin or h Hi---r. It reminds me of 1984 and thought criminals. Working under a totalitarian regime. No free will or freedom to question the stupid breaquarcy. Everyone is listening and will turn you in.

None of us know how much time we have. What we do control is how we spend the days we've been given, the people we invest in, and the legacy we leave behind.

The surprising thing isn’t how different we are — it’s how similar we turned out to be. XOM did an impressive job shaping people into robots who follow whatever beliefs they were handed. It’s sad to watch so much talent get wasted inside a system this corrupt.

@he Fake nice is the way I see the managers people call cool and chill in XOM . Fake nice is backstabber I prefer the a--holes that say they are evil inside and outside at least you know where you are standing with them

You’re absolutely right. I’ve seen everything you described. These people are emotionally hollow and the environment they create is dangerous. My friend was pushed to the edge; her manager intentionally built a hostile atmosphere around her until she broke. They forced her out

Yes the ones I have seen survive are the ones who sabotage and ki-l their fellow employees. Only the worst stay at exon for long. One guy turned a contractor in for a safety violation. The contractor ki-led himself after he was banned from working at exxon. Another supervisor piped an employee that had cancer and needed the health insurance. The supervisors that will pip or fire without though are the ones exxon wants. I remember one employee pleading for his job and crying to the supervisor. The supervisor pretended to care and assured the employee he would pass. In the end the supervisor failed the employee and the employee left out crying.

I’ll Clift note the post. Management of perception's. Leave because this is not a healthy place to spend the majority of your life. It’s a house of cards. Get what you need and go.

Forced ranking and annual layoffs of 5-10% create a competitive environment detrimental to teamwork and cooperation.

Assemble a team of 10 great people then they try to undermine each other, grab glory individually, and claim accomplishments of others in an effort not to be number 10 that gets fired.

Next year quite similar but fighting not to be number 9, and doing extra work to teach and coach the 3 BTC staff assigned to them while resenting the 2 HiPos that survive the ranking despite complete ignorance, received promotions, and talk about their RSUs that the people that actually did all the team’s work did not receive.

The next year team more dysfunctional because two HiPos replaced with 2 new HiPos with even more ignorance and arrogance, BTC members increased to 5, and the 2 people that did 80% of the work took the PIL last year.

The only thing these so‑called ‘mentors’ do is sabotage your work and claim your ideas so they can pretend they’ve ‘earned’ the mentorship title. The entire program should be scrapped. If someone genuinely wants to help you, they’ll do it without labeling themselves a mentor or demanding acknowledgment.

I agree completely . No it's not a popularity contest at all. The genuinely likable people barely survive in this toxic culture, while the most unpleasant ones manage to stay afloat by throwing others under the b
