Oh, cheer up you laid-off whiners

After all, look at dear leader Watson soldiering-on after taking a 15% pay-cut last year. While driving the company into the ground, making bad decisions, laying -off thousands, ruining careers and lives, he only took home $22MM. This year he might... — read more

I got the call today, I didn't want to hear But I knew that it would come. HR was talkin' on the phone, She said my job was gone....

And I thought of all the bad luck And the struggles we went through And how I lost my job and you lost billions of dollars. What are those voices outside love's open door, Make us throw off our contentment And beg for something more? I'm learning to... — read more

No One Cares About You Other Than You

Friends, family and this message board help with the emotional and psychological pain, but you are basically on your own. What are you going to do? Sit on your butt and spend severance pay until the industry picks up in 1-2 years? Move back home with... — read more

How was your first day post Chevron?

Mine was great! I rode Harley up to Yankees in Carlos, Tx and had lunch. Talked to some retirees there, great weather, enjoyed the ride. I believe I can get used to this

Different Last Day dates at SJVBU for those released?

When is your last day? Mine is May 23rd. But I am hearing that people who worked at 9525 have a last day of June 13. They are receiving an extra paycheck because more than 50 people were laid off at that location. However, shouldn't all of SJVBU... — read more

CVX is a joke

I know many guys who received job offers yesterday who could barely pass CVX well control nor hardly even knew how to use Excel. These are the same guys CVX decided to keep to run their $1MM/day operations. The whole D&C group is a joke. It's full of... — read more

Dude!

I heard an HR rep working for Chevron Bakersfield talking about yesterday's layoff. He elaborated on how each person took 20 min, and how hard it was to layoff so many people in such a short time. How professional is it for an HR person to be... — read more

Life after chevron

I posted this in another thread, but.... check with your state, most will pay for you to go back to school for up to 24 months. You'll draw unemployment and get free school. Not a bad deal. Just take this as what it is, a opportunity your never going... — read more

Musical chair ROM process is flawed

After going through this ROM process, I have concluded that this musical chair ROM process is flawed as well. Prefer the traditional way of letting people go that most other companies do, instead of having everyone apply for the job. Everyone who was... — read more

CVX up today to >$96

Hope it stays for a while. That's good news for those of us taking or being forced to take the package based on our own decisions, or not, and also for those who get to keep their jobs. Just trying to add a little positive tone to balance out all of... — read more

There is hope people...dust yourselves up and move on

Who says that life stops after leaving an employer? You may twist this situation into an opportunity to do better things and reinvent yourself, at any age. If you did not see it coming (and this goes to the ones that stayed) and did not work on your... — read more

Offsite Houston based MCP ESP status

I work for PRC for an offsite MCP in Houston. For our specific project, you were informed via email from boss if you were "awarded" your current position, sent a webex meeting with HR if you were to be let go, and many other had not heard a word one... — read more

HUGE DISTRACTION

Expats are the low hanging fruit. No one is safe, Green badges and Blue badges are getting cut. I'll be glad when this is all over so the one's that are left, possibly not me, can pick up the pieces and get back to business. This is a HUGE... — read more

Whistleblower Attorney in Houston Needed

I need some help here - can someone recommend a really good and, most importantly, very aggressive Whistleblower Lawyer here in Houston. Cannot disclose much here but in short, I would need an investigator and an attorney to support my case - I think... — read more

A different view

I've been an expat contractor for Chevron internationally for almost 25 years. I always took home twice the salary that my Chevron supervisor did, and I never had to do anybody's PMP, even though many company staff had a dotted line reporting to me... — read more

Layoff threat and stretching out your layoff finances

Years ago after being laid off I started looking for ways to cover costs if I was RIF'ed again. There were two things I found, one IncomeAssure won't cover you unless you have held your job for 24 months and and have purchased the coverage 6 or 9... — read more

A job offer was made to me late in the day today.

While the wait and suspense was agonizing, I appreciate that MCBU prioritized the people who were being let go over those who were offered positions. If I had been let go after people had started rejoicing about their job offers, it would've added... — read more

Friends and Family

Just thinking about all the carnage today and was wondering how many, if any, friends and family employees were let go. Chime in if you were one or know of one.

For Those Still Employed

It's back to work on Monday, just like nothing ever happened. You better work your fanny off and suck up to your manager everyday. Chevron needs maximum effort from all of you until the next layoff this year when you, too, will be laid off.

MCBU Houston

The blood letting is over at MCBU's Houston office. I don't have exact numbers but the sense is that approximately 50% of the petroleum engineers and geologists were let go.

Downstream

I'm ex Chevron, left a while back for a better job to avoid this situation, the writing was on the wall. Is downstream being cut at this time too?

I got canned!
