I see a lot of people complaining about QC sending more jobs overseas and reducing headcount in the U.S.
Guess what?
Welcome to the real world folks. It's been like this for a lot of us companies that QC has been competing with for a long time...
The industry QC is in is no different than just about every other chip company these days...And the only thing that matters is... Cost.....
If you look at it this way, the chip business is an insane business to work in.. We work in an industry for which even in today's inflation adjusted dollars, people expect the "product" to do more for a lot less money, even non-inflation adjusted... That cost has has to come out of somewhere...
And what do you expect when a company like QC derives almost 50% of it's earnings from overseas, at low-margin/low cost geographical areas???
And let's face it, if a U.S. company thinks that they can pay someone 25-30% the cost of a U.S. employee elsewhere, and get a 60-70% productivity out of it, management math will say, hire 2-3 people overseas and get 180%+ productivity!
And that's exactly the math that QC management is doing, just like every other chip company has been doing....
And it's just a matter of time before the figure out that the same cost reduction doesn't just apply to production, but also Corporate R&D.......And yes, QCom'ers working in that country club R&D group. You know exactly what I'm talking about....
It's really unfortunate that QC has been so successful in it's business up to this point, that none of it's near competitors was able to sustain itself in the same business, and expand its busineseses. When those layoffs do hit, good luck finding a comparable job in San Diego...The lack of competition is great for employers, terrible for worker bees, which is probably why many of you with no strings attached will find it much better to relocate to Silicon Valley and work for companies like Google and Apple....
Good luck folks. My sympathies for those that will go through what many of us have already gone through in this industry for a very very long time...
