Do the people wearing suits sitting in all the Geo Market and Corporate offices really think we are that stupid??? Let's not forget guys there are rules and shit to protect the working people like us that go to the field to provide for some ungrateful pricks sitting in offices that forgot what it was like to work. Bad part is Baker still got it wrong after all these years. How much money did the CEO of BJ walk away with when the merger took place with BHI? How much does CEO look to make when Baker merges with Halliburton? About a 60 million dollar difference that Stewart walked away with!!! And these guys are deciding on our future. In my years I have never worked with so much incompetent idiots making decisions about an industry they have no clue about. Maybe if all the management positions that were made for all the kiss ass people that kissed their way to the top was never created we possibly could have survived this slow down while waiting for the market to turn back around again. The short answer, yes. Not a single one of us alone is as dumb as all of us together.
It is simple business. They have 450 rigs less now than this time last year just in NA region. nobody has a crystal ball, it could pick up next week, it could be 2 years. either way, that is a lot of extra people to have sitting around waiting for work. Less rigs means less rig hands, less workshop, less planners, less engineering, less of everybody. Unless you keep them all on an operate at a loss, or price out of the market to recoup the loss just to lose even more work. Bottom line is we work for a company who are out to make money, just like every other company on the planet, when profit drops you cut costs pure and simple. not nice if you are being cut, I know that first hand, but there is nothing you can do about it, unless you can get OPEC to cut production.
