The merger is just talk to try to pump up the stock value. Starboard knows a merger is not viable right now.
Anonymous 61605 ..how much solid truth is there to what you wrote? I'm sure administrative assistants will get shown the door soon as will sales.. it's that feeling of you know it's coming but just a matter of when. Do u suggest we start looking soon ? Will we get a severance line the driver's did?
The only fly in this ointment is the merger. If this takes off, closings will slow for a while, but then they will speed up again. This is not going to impact 2015 closures but could affect 2016... sooo the new name would be Home Orifice Staples, or Staples Despot, or Home Orifice Despot, or Despot Staples or Orifice Depot yadayadayada
I don't want to be too dismissive here but what makes anyone think they will have a support job that supports someone that has been laid off? Waves of store closings coming....WAVES! 1000 I think. If your not above 6 mil. get ready. If you are seeing double digit declines this year then do the math and figure out how many years until you get below 6 mil. That will be your WAVE date.... I figure 500 stores this year...
Thank Demos, Ron and Otis for their "insightful" !JOKE! future that was painfully obvious to many Part-timers. So many options, so limited thinking. Oh and of course they get paid HUGE bonus while denying it to GM's that earned it.... Classless. And they are going to be the Amazon challenger NOT. Why would you buy something on Staples.com if you already could get it as Amazon Prime customer and had a great experience. Why would you choose Staples if you have no .com experience and choose only what you have heard about.... God they are sooo screwed.
All office sales associates will be finished by mid may.Saving staples another million or so in base pay.Online trumps what it pays to have sales associated on the payroll

Not really, it's all about online sales now, no other position is safe in my opinion.
