Follett likes to limit information because they cannot truly compete.
Anyone that didn't see this coming is drinking kool-aid. Follett has been behind the times for the last 10 years. They created the feeling of being ripped off. Never any sales on clothing until recent. This new administration sucks as well. They only positive thing they've done is have sales on GM. While it's still overpriced junk at least customers feel they can get a bit of a discount on this junk.
59385, this is called innovation. Something follett currently doesnt know how to do.
Uh reality check folks, we can get can the information of what we need just as easily from the campus. We don't need to log into the bookstore website.
Students go to the bookstore website to get information and purchase elsewhere. Occupy just makes it easier.
Matt Hanson is drinking the Follett kool-aid. Ridiculous talking points.
The Streisand effect is the phenomenon whereby an attempt to hide, remove, or censor a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely, usually facilitated by the Internet.
It is named after American entertainer Barbra Streisand, whose 2003 attempt to suppress photographs of her residence in Malibu, California inadvertently drew further public attention to it. Similar attempts have been made, for example, in cease-and-desist letters to suppress numbers, files, and websites. Instead of being suppressed, the information receives extensive publicity and media extensions such as videos and spoof songs, often being widely mirrored across the Internet or distributed on file-sharing networks.
“We understood that even students that knew about sites like Amazon and Chegg were going to the bookstore (websites) purely because the bookstore showed the required book information," Frank said. "They were the only source that would tell you what books you actually needed to buy, so since you were already on that site, they would just buy there. That’s why we developed OccupyTheBookstore as a Chrome plug-in.”
“Our goal at the campus store is to present the best total value for the right books at the right time, all with hassle-free service. Beyond price, there are many factors that play into a purchase decision – including the guarantee of having the right materials, the ability to return and exchange tied to a student’s specific academic calendar and many more,” said Matt Hanson, director of the UGA Bookstore and Follett employee.

The bookstore is going to lower prices?
Institutional stores already use something like this.
Brady Kelsey, who works at the University of Florida bookstore, says she finds benefits and faults in the app.
“I work at the bookstore because I don’t have a lot of money,” she says, “I think if our bookstore has higher prices than the competitors, it’ll force the bookstore to lower its prices which would help me save with my employee discount.”
