More layoffs were expected in 2014, but China decision lingering around has put some uncertainty. The outcome of China decision will dictate the reality about the next layoff round. We have to meet the numbers for Q1, 2015 to make investors happy :)
many people in qis/qchat have been given time till feb/march to find a job or leave. Info from direct source
This procedure seems to make sense. Let go the engineers first, and then let go the support people when there are fewer people to support. Good thinking.
This next one will be mostly Corp. folks that don't add value anyway (marketing, IT, facilities, etc.) Mostly in SD, so those of you in the rest of the world can breathe easier.
I agree with Anonymous53377, I can buy (somewhat) the claim that we'll have more cuts in 2015. However, I'd like to evaluate the claim by following the reasoning behind it. Specifying what groups and geographies might be affected can definitely add some credibility to the claim.
Again, what divisions? Pretty hard to gauge your prediction without any specificity.
the SVP who told me trumps your VP
your VP will probably be included in the next layoff round
Your VP is either not aware or else lying through his teeth
Your VP doesn't know. He's too low on the totem-pole.
Vp and directors use to mean something. Now they are just grunts like the rest of us.
Nops. No further layoffs.
Our VP confirmed that there would be no layoffs After this one.
We asked him one on one .. And he categorically said that no such thing is planned.
this can be correct, there are so many people working on windows phone , with hardly 2-3 products maximum
Most of the teams are oversized . When the industry is saturated why would company need so many employees
snapdragon 800 is the benchmark for mobile performance, no one requires more than this on a 5 inch device
Thank you Anonymous53123
If the top 10 engineers in the country is working on your team and if you don't hire anyone and is forced to give one of the 10 engineers a 2 rating, you're basically saying that guy is worth nothing. The rating system is broken. It only works when you're hiring new employees.
All divisions including QCT and QTL?
The managers have been given a go ahead to make sure that there are people with ratings of 1 and 2 out of 5. This will give an "idea" who has to go....and avoid severance packages...people with 1&2 can start thinking of their next job....
This will hit rest of the company. Atheros is done.
You're talking about more hurt on Atheros, or company-wide?
Pretty sure this is accurate.
No. The layoff is done.
I wouldn't be surprised.
Source?
Inside info from a higher up who can't keep quiet about confidential info.
OK, now tell us what are basing this statement on.
