Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

According to Murthy at the all-hands meeting, official number of layoffs is 500

Did some people get their positions reinstated? If so, i want to know how. Would it help to donate to QPAC at this point as someone mentioned below?

There were ~700 contract people (Manpower) at QC prior to the layoff. There were ~150 left when they walked the contractors out. The number might have been ~150 full-time QC folks let go, but I assume the number was much higher. I'll give QC credit, they can certainly keep "things under the radar". On the VPs know the exact number and "they don't tell". Everybody is still wonder though... what comes in 2015? Lots of folks looking around now.

There's 10 VPs at Qualcomm with no reports under them.

Forget the number of layoffs...Just see if the work of many people doing ....how many "working engineers" compared to others are there....do you really need so many VPs. VP position used to mean something....now there are so many ....many of them don't have reports....IS THIS OKAY????

WHY SHOULDNT THERE BE LAYOFFS???? Unfortunately...it is engineers/temps/part-times who do the work are laid off.....there is a serious need of clean up and demotion in qualcomm.....

I think the layoff number is around 150. We're still doing very good.

Anonymous53386, you either work for HR and are paid to spread FUD or are sadly misguided. The numbers are far larger than 500. If you count contractors, subsidiaries (Atheros), etc., the number is close up against 2000.

I can see this. Judging what I am seeing on this forum, I'd probably say even 500 is too much, probably feels like 300 in the US and the rest overseas. That's just my two cents - I've been monitoring the discussions since day 1

are there companies out there that still operate like the Q of old? Any company once they get big becomes bloated. Google and Apple is the same way.

There are many self-directing directors still (dir with no reports). Heck, i tell myself what to do all the time; can I become a director?

So should we get rid of all the directors and managers?

The 600 number is just a guideline.....to the slackers/old_timers and owners of obsolete and redundant projects. Qchat/QIS/Brew/mirasol/mediaflo....there are many more....also people who have been there for more than 20yrs....doing nothing with dollar value... accountability is not there anymore....too many people hired and many directors/managers work more as "secretaries" without adding value....technologies is changing fast...but people who are not on their toes will be let off....or they can leave on their own.....
