Basically, the Qualcomm acquisition was the worst thing that ever happened to Atheros. Atheros had a very lean design style -- MUCH less COSTLY designer oversight, NO full-time mask designers (designers did our own layout), and we prioritized chip cost in terms of silicon area. This was the right formula to take home a significant portion of the (unfortunately) increasingly commoditized WiFi/BT/GPS/USB/etc. markets. Enter Qualcomm, whose bloated processes and culture of abject inflexibility on the digital design side stifled innovation and prevented obvious improvements from being implemented in our RFIC design. I don't believe in QCT's ability to execute in the LAN market with such reduced headcount, ESPECIALLY if they don't streamline their processes. I guess it's time to start shopping for non-QCOM-based consumer products.

Atheros got acquired, there is a new boss in town and all of us should move on. This acquisition was plagued with push back and good old 'it used to be so much better' whining. Do not get me wrong, I know that Q is bloated, but at the same time we should all move on as nobody is going to reverse the trend.
Atheros had to sell at that time due to little penetration in the mobile market. But the integration management was really poor. Re-org and no-sight marketing wasted a lot of time. Qcom connectivity side used to have a lot money and no sense in project managing and budget. Sadly bad money drives out good.
