Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

The actual number of layoffs is much higher

The 600 people number is BS. They are playing a semantics game to try and avoid having to mention the real number. Of course, we also know that the company has engaged in "stealth" layoffs almost continuously over the last year, constantly picking 20-50 people at a time throughout various departments (IT, Corp. Mktg., QIS, etc.) to avoid having to go public with the reality. God forbid it would soil the opportunity to make Fortune magazine's Top 100 Companies to Work for!!!

Qualcomm needs to move their offices to a cheaper location. It's hard to find engineers who wants to pay for the insane housing. I've also seen very little recruiting on the east coast where there are a lot of good schools.

Qualcomm is laying people off and also shutting some offices down completely. They may advise a number of 600 right now but Qualcomm should reveal how many people they have laid off throughout 2014. CYA yup. I would say so.

Because if you begin talking to people within the various divisions of the company (assuming you, like I, work there), you will quickly come up with a total that far exceeds the 600 number. Just the US number alone exceeds the 600 number. The company is trying to CYA by making it seem like there are only a small number affected, to minimize the PR fallout.
