You know that the layoffs are evident. Whether you are getting laid off or not you still are going to get affected as you will pickup the work for the coworkers that are getting laid off. Just the lingering thought of that additional work and the way these layoffs are handled is very very demoralizing for the employees. I hope the management has motivating things to say (and pay) to the employees that are still going to continue...otherwise high performing employees like me certainly don't have any motivation to continue to work as hard.

High performing employee? WTF? Could you be more arrogant? Don't think just because you are spared, you are somehow "better" than those employees laid off. You probably just play the political game better.
Anonymous 52304, please be cognizant of the cost of living up north. My own case - I left Qualcomm for a giant software company in the Seattle area 3 years ago. For the first two years good, but then went through waves of layoffs after acquisition with company N. Left before I got impacted. Now in NorCal, work for a small company pretty happy. What I have found is your pay will be only 10 percent more than in the Northwest at least, and that is eaten up by state income tax in California. But you get a massive sticker shock in renting a place with a good school district,
Wish there were more employers in San Diego. Whether you are laid off or not, start packing bags to move northwards!
let me tell you a real story - people were moved/removed earlier and remaining folks stepped up to fill many shoes only to get lined up for next cuts, forget retention bonuses or awards. Of course management had said magical words back then about remaining people. think about yourself not the company which will use you to the fullest and trash you like stale garbage when the job is done. dont be a mindless slave to earn your bread, the work culture took a massive nosedive over the last few yrs. get your priorities right, there are many better companies than qualcomm out there.

Next time when you get that "best places to work" survey, be sure to adjust the ratings appropriately. I think they toss the low ratings anyways (as outliers), but if there are enough of them, others won't be duped into thinking this is such a great place to work
