Thread regarding Follett layoffs

But whatever you do, don’t take it the wrong way: Say goodbye to the guilt.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/victorlipman/2012/06/15/an-open-letter-to-anyone-ever-laid-off/ So to return to my original point, my little Open Letter: The sooner you lose any trace of misdirected guilt, the sooner you as an individual can start to heal and move forward constructively. Update the resume. Look for a new job. Or take a deep breath. Take a break. Hike the Appalachian Trail. Read War and Peace. Spend more time with the kids. Go to a museum or a ballgame. Do whatever you really like to but never had time for. Or work harder than ever at starting your own enterprise. That great American solution can work too.

But whatever you do, don’t take it the wrong way: Say goodbye to the guilt.

It’s not your fault. It never was.

Thanks. It is good to remember it was not my performance, but that of new Follett leadership.

I'll write that pithy rejoinder to each of my creditors when I can no longer pay them. I'm sure they'll be happy to own such wisdom. At a time when older workers lose benefits and income when they have to find new work, that article reads like a turd sitting a top a bowl of freshly poured cheerios. I was good at my job. I loved my job. I enjoyed the campus. I loved my company. Suddenly, I'M THE PROBLEM! It is personal. While I have no choice but to pick up and move on (implied is being paid less, going to the bottom of the seniority ladder, severing many professional relationships, re-calibrating how I see my self), it will take a while for the gaping wound to scab and finally scar. As I didn't put the wound there, the people who did don't get to demand absolution. Dickens understood that the ghost of Christmas past had a relationship with the Ghost of Christmas future. Follett has made millions on selling Dickens' titles. They are well equipped to cope the my disdain for as long as I am served by carrying it.
