Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Anonymous7290 (IT Ex), RE: IT Layoffs

Town hall meeting today not single mention of internal IT successes, but kudos to Infosys and TCS who have over 100 consultants working on POS and websphere. Actually felt bad for IT.

Internal IT is done! Impressive moving from 9 ecommerce platforms to 1 going live in June.

@7936: You can forget MPOS, ain't happening. POS Project is a mess. So in other words, typical Follett project.

You can have 10 POS system won't mater because people don't want to sop at Follett anymore after past failures to provided what they need. 7941 is spot on. Follett contracts bargain basement consultants that have low skill level and basically are just taking the money and running.

I like the idea of ringing sales from anywhere on the floor. How will we manage shrink? How will security be able to tell who has paid and who is stealing?

Considering the rapidity of turn over (by design), who is going to teach the endless stream of temps? If you're hiring students, I ask about shrink again. Once a student tells all of their friends of the vulnerability, the campus bookstore will be the easiest mark on campus. (even easier than it is today. honestly, shrink is all about policing employees, right?)

Consultants are only cheap if you don't count all the rework that is needed after they hand off. It creates constant chaos.

Sales will increase because of tablets and mobile POS. Imagine checking out customers anywhere in your store, in the text aisles etc. And for the first 100 stores, you will actually get two POS systems, WinDSS stays to handle text rental and the new POS for purchases. You will be able to ring up twice as many sales. Sales will double.

Question how are these internal changes going to help the stores? Are the bookstores going to be stocked or is it going to be the same as last Rush?

They promote to avoid more voluntary departures. Turnover screws up the plan and support of the old systems while the replacement is getting ready

It gets their kudos. Check and see how many promotions were made in e commerce alone.

Curious how exactly is this going to help increase sales at the stores? Kudos to the techs but what has that got to do with stocking inventory so there is something to sell to the students? NACS silly lawsuit may slow down Amazon concerning false advertising is going to buy Follett and B&N what a few months ... MS teamed up with Pearson ... but we can take orders through the web that communicates with the POS now ... It took only one hundred consultants to do that ... Shut the front door!
