I was laid off in October from IT. What the others are saying about IT are spot on. We were understaffed and often overworked. Large projects were almost always rushed into production. Most managers (not all) tended not to listen to the developers. Requirements were usually poor, partly because the business was also understaffed and didn't have time to do them properly. QA for CourseTracks was vastly understaffed for a long time. They were laying off experienced staff and replacing them with younger, less experienced, and less expensive developers--very unethical.
I left and got a much better job...you can too. There is no future there.
