If you have sick time accrued and you were sick, then you are suppose to use that first. You only use vacation time accrued if you took off for vacation or have no sick time left over. The reason your supervisor advised you to use your vacation time is because CCI has implemented a cap on vacations, once you reached that cap, you no longer accrue vacations, she was probably trying to help you out.
