Can anyone explain how bumping works in the southeast , district 3? And does it matter if the surplus is “economical” vs “technological “ ? Also, where does it end. Can a tech who’s been bumped then go bump someone else ?

If you’re bumped you bump junior in 35 miles. No one junior, then junior in the state.
For D3 if you are bumped you will take the lowest available in the state when it’s your turn.
If you are bumped do you pick after the surplus employees? Do surplus employees get priority? Or do you get to pick wherever your seniority stands even if your bumped?
If you want to leave the company without bumping, just check the box at the bottom of the page you will be given. And don’t make any choices in the section above. You will then lose your job to surplus which will get you termination pay. Verify with your local union but I have seen it firsthand
An FT can bump a junior FT, ST or OPT. The catch is you can only bump the junior man within 35 miles when it’s your turn to pick. If the junior man is an ST or OPT thats the only person you can bump to keep a job. Ask the union.
A wage scale 32 FT must bump a junior wage scale 32 FT if available. If not , then he can bump to wage scale 31. Be careful of wage scale 31, the next contract will throw sand you know where for these guys.
How does prem tech bumping work in D6? No one seems to know
If you are ws32 and the junior man within 35 miles is a service tech-ws31, then you will be a service tech unless you accept a job outside of the 35 mile range. You will be required to splice aerial and buried and install bonded uverse.
Economical vs technical may also have to do with wage protection. If someone takes a job with lower pay, their previous wage may be protected. If service is long enough, it could be a year for economic surpluses, and 3 years for technological surplus.
The devil is in the details, which would be outlined in the D3 contract. My experience is with a different contract.
This thread has been the most informative thread on this website in quite awhile and we even had a gentleman helping someone here who got laid off. It’s encouraging to see after seeing so many other threads of name calling and attacks. Thank you
This is to Post @Zzb40N4-ehh I spoke with my union president about the TLA I was told that at 18.5 years of service I was intitiled to 42 weeks of pay 24 weeks in the job bank and then 18 weeks of a lump Doeask him about TLA and I was told that I could get sipp which with my service is like 19000 before taxes and then I could get the TLA I would sure like to talk with someone about that could help with this thank you SIR
This post is to. "Post ID: @Zzb4oN4-ehh" in Tennessee. You are a prime candidate for the Transitional Leave of Absence. I am currently on it right now. It is bridging me over to my 20 anniversary, so that I can qualify for my pension and retirement benefits. HR knows what this is. Evidently it came over from SE Bell. The surplus package, that will be gone over with you in a conference call, ought to give you all the details. Leave me a message on this forum with any questions that you have.
I think economical vs technical has to do with whether or not sipp is offered. Seems like I heard that along time ago.
"Curious as to how many would willingly bump a less senior tech complain about the older senior techs not retiring to save their jobs...."
Well, the Romans did not have a number for that, if fact their numerical system only went to 3999. (MMMCMXCIX) The Arabs invented the concept of "0".
Zero, that is the number of techs that would complain about bumping a junior member.
DEG DT’s, FT’s, Services Technicians and OPT’s are in a different family of skills (Network Field Operations) than Systems Technicians and DT’s in Business Services (CPE-Business Field Services). Sorry, none of those being surpluses will be able to bump Business Services techs out of there jobs.....period.
I got surplus’s yesterday in Tn I’m a service tech I was only 18 months away from getting my 20 years and the full retirement now I just want to get the terminations pay how hard is it gonna be just to get the terminations pay I figured they would fight me tooth & nail getting me to bump someone
A deg DT can bump the junior FT, ST or OPT within 35 miles. FT cannot bump deg DT. FT can bump junior FT, ST, OPT within 35 miles. Ssim DT cannot be bumped by any of the above due to skillset. Consult the Union, that’s how it worked when I was surplused.
Curious as to how many would willingly bump a less senior tech complain about the older senior techs not retiring to save their jobs....
There are two types of DTs and they are in a different family of skills. The DTs that are in skill set 9 can bump a systems tech. The DTs that are in the other skill set can not. FTs are not in skill set 9 so they cannot bump SSIM DTs or systems techs
The Wire Tech option is basically nil. If there’s an opening anywhere in the 9 states for a Wire Tech, you have to accept that job before bumping one. They won’t let you just bump a Wire Tech in your local region.
I haven't read the SouthEast contract, but many of these contracts have a "job offer guarantee" in them, which requires AT&T to offer a job somewhere before they can lay someone off.
So, there might that option. However, if that job winds up being Prem Tech, assuming that title could substantially reduce retirement welfare benefits (health) in the future.
It goes by family of skills and location. I believe DT’s are in the same family of skills as FT’s, OPT’s and ST’s. They can also claim equal or lower level vacancy/SIPP positions. There is no limitations when it comes to construction/TFS/SSIM, etc. I’m not an FT, but they should be able to bump a DT just the same as a DT can bump them.
My understanding is that SS DT & Systems Tech can bump and SIP each other exclusively. SS DT & Systems Tech can SIP for DEG DT and vice versa.
I thought a DT was a DT. What’s this talk about FTs only being able to bump certain FTs?
Correct me if I’m wrong but FTs can’t bump SSIM DTs. Only DEG DTs
What did you want to know? I’ve been surplused 3 times in the Southeast already, not counting yesterday.
32’s (FT’s and DT’s) can bump other 32’s as well a--(ST’s and OPTs). ST’s and OPT’ can bump each other. Their first options are within 35 miles of their exchange, then the statewide list.
Bumping is simple to explain if they follow the contract, but if they do like they've done the last year or so, then good luck!
