When TK, a high-profile former Oracle executive, left the software company last September, his peers at the database software company expected Oracle to replace him. But LE, Oracle’s co-founder and chief technology officer, had other plans.,. In a meeting shortly after the departure of TK, LE surprised his inner circle by saying he was excited to personally take over the duties of the former product development leader, according to a former Oracle employee with direct knowledge of his comments.
LE is the father of two t#ddlers, according to multiple people who know LE. At an event at his home in San Francisco last fall, Mr. Ellison told a group of entrepreneurs about his delight at spending time with his young ch#ldr#n. “This is the happiest I have ever been,” he said, according to an account by one of the entrepreneurs, SV, which he posted on his company’s website. “He’s changing di@pers,” one of the people who knows LE said.

LE shows up at Oracle headquarters—a cluster of mirrored-glass buildings in Redwood City, Calif.—roughly three days a week, during which he meets senior executives for hours each of those days, according to a former Oracle employee who was present in some of these meetings. LE, who started out as a programmer, often spends time in those meetings analyzing competing products and discussing how Oracle’s own can be better, said another former Oracle employee who has seen this firsthand.
It appears that LE plans to continue overseeing product development at Oracle for the foreseeable future, which doesn’t surprise people who have known LE for years.
