Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Will there be more today?

Do we know? I'm not looking forward to going into work today. So many different rumors of more layoffs have made me even more nervous than I usually am - if that's even possible at this point.

I'm really starting to think that something other than Oracle would be a better fit for me... Even if it comes with lower pay.

I'm in support and I've not heard a thing about this.

It is beginning to happen now. Some colleagues have reported that they have been given an invite by their manager to attend a meeting, required. Most of us know what this says. It is not one person only but several, and some persons got the same email for next week. This was in cloud support and support in general including Orlando

Today (Thursday) will be a BIG day for layoffs and RIFs. All over the US and world.

We’ll see if specifics get posted here. A lot of the posters are too afraid to post what is really happening

Owning support? It’s their f---ing product! If done correctly, ie not micromanaged, obsession with metrics, properly trained, with managers that have true clout, support is a goldmine. Customers don’t have to be cajoled or forced into purchasing contracts and renewals practically sign themselves.

Everyone should take to the time to consider what would be best for them. Sometimes it's good to consider other possibilities. I know one dev manager who went into sales. Honestly, that's a much better fit for him. He will be happier in that new role.

Consider other options, sometimes we all need to take a step back and think about what else is out there for us.

This is all made up nonsense. None of these people here have any inside information or knowledge of or if a layoff will or will not occur but yet people continue to read and feed into this. I even have to speculate that many of the posters are not even Oracle employees but outside agitators who are all too willing to play with your fragile egos and emotions and feed off your fear.

Oracle like all companies will have layoffs and will continue to have to adjust to a changing global economy and technology direction. They are unfortunately probably too big to turn in the direction they need to anytime soon and like most companies of that size when times change they struggle.

I would agree with some of the posters here, there are plenty of things Oracle could do but companies are already doing that would make them more competitive. They absolutely have to cut costs and reduce expenses.

Like many companies it is my understanding living at Oracle is trying to take advantage of outsourcing a significant amount of its lower level support operations leaving several global centers to handle only the most significant cases and for customers that are at a premium level or solution support level of support. This has been a fairly common practice amongst companies for the past two or three years and now Oracle is starting to understand the impact to the bottom line of owning support

I have to deal with an application support team (not oracle) as a customer now. I can tell you that all the older legacy software companies get away with total sh-- support for legacy and non-cloud stuff. Severity means nothing when you don’t have enough staff to cover the Monday morning case spikes, serious CVE reports, sev 0 Company down and all that. Or you get India based script readers that don’t read the info provided in the case and ask you to do what you have already shown you have tried, wasting time and pissing me off to the max.

IOW, the starve support model is alive and well. The whole thing about pushing support to the ISVs/partners I don’t get. Oracle going to provide access to proprietary tools, info and teams? Bug reports? Are they going to re-staff the Engineering and sustaining teams to fix bugs? Real training, not some sparse slide deck from 2011? How is this not just passing the buck and keeping the customer at arm’s length?

"How the hell can they reduce Support even more? S1 SRs get responses once per shift already (unless you complain and complain via call-in) and half the time it doesn’t move the ball forward!"

You may want to try 'escalating' the SR to a Manager and be firm that the SR must have an escalation status, that gives visibility at higher levels, You are probably only getting 1 update a shift as the engineer is constantly updating escalated Sr. Note that P1 Sr automatically get reassigned to available engineer when updated outside of the shift it was raised in so if you aren't getting progress in one 'region' try updating it early morning or late in your day so it gets transferred. You could also phone in and ask for it to be reassigned to a less busy / more skilled engineer (you may get lucky).

It is stressful for many people or this site would not exist. How about some kindness?

my manager told me that support will have layoffs over the next few weeks. Some might be offered to relocate. But only some

Yes. My manager said the US employees in support will be reduced or consolidated.

I do understand this. Because of shareholder value and now DoJ investigations into big tech as well as new tariffs Oracle has continued to "right size". Most of the layoffs expected in June/July Q2/Q3 will be US targeting Cloud as we combine the various cloud business units and move towards a single cloud platform and strategy.

I understand that most reductions will this time be in the Cloud support organizations. Targeting first those in small offices or remote as Oracle support looks to consolidate efficiencies into just one US center for Cloud. Probably I expect that from what I am told is that these actions will occur as early as Thursday of this week or Thursday of next week and montlhy thereafter through Q3. At that point, business conditions will be reevaluated.

Yes, please move on. If you look to this forum as a way to manage your career...

That said, it's not going to get easier elsewhere nor are you safer.

For sure there will be more RIF's coming. We were told as much when the last big RIF in India started.

India and China have been hit and as I understand it EMEA is in the firing line June / July, at least due to employment laws etc there is some notice period in most countries in Europe and anyone looking for a new role outside would generally be looked on favourably having the big O on their CV.

I jumped on a Zoom a few minutes early yesterday and overheard the subject of headcount and RIF's being talked about in terms of who will be left to handle the workload so something is definately being co-ordinated. Unfortunately its a way of life these days in any big company. I don't honestly think anyone is 100% safe at Oracle.

While being part of a RIF can be horrible I can say from experience it can also be very empowering when you realize other companies value your skills way more highly than they are valued at Oracle
