Says the person who got morning shifts and the occasional weekend off.
They never split the two, but between Nov. 1, 2010 and Apr 30, 2011 we got both the Company Fundd 401K & Profit Sharing & 401K 6% Match. That was the most Employer Contribution money for 6 months they ever gave.
Funny you can always tell who the manager trolls are by the Red negative responses...Comment it's anonymous! unless you're a manager. duh
Didn’t we get split profit sharing and 401k for the first couple years. Half went into our profit sharing account, half into 401k right?
The Sam's Share started Jan. 31, 1998
401K started Mar. 23, 1998
6% Match started Jan. 29, 2011
Of the 80% of associates that do not participate in the 401k program, and we will assume this figure is correct, what percentage of those people are young? Ask yourself, did you think about retirement savings when you were in college, just graduated, or didn’t have a family to think about?
So if you make $12 an hour and
you work 35 hours a week, contributing 1% of your pretax wage equals about $8.40 a check. People drive to the other side of town to save 10 cents a gallon on gas, but do not participate in a company program that basically gives them money, then it’s not the program or companies fault for offering it.
During the majority of the profit sharing days, the company didn’t have Sam’s Share bonuses. 401k is designed to teach the associates to save for retirement by making it a matching contribution. Any financial planner will advise that 401k plans offer both tax benefits under our federal tax laws, as well as helping people save for their retirement.
401k contributions are guaranteed, associate contributes, company matches. Now profit sharing by definition assumes that the company, actually any company, would need to have a profit for any given year to share. All of the doom and gloom mob on this site that predict company ruins and bankrupty sooner, rather than later, should love the guarantee of 401k contributions regardless of company fortunes.
And finally, 401k plans offer the flexibility to decide how your money is invested. Profit Sharing programs largely, if not almost exclusively, reinvest your money into company stocks. While in the 70’s and the 80’s this made secretaries and cashiers millionaires, having all you eggs in one basket nowadays is a recipe for disaster.
You have to contribute out of your own paycheck in order for them to match that 6%. Before with company contributed profit sharing you didn’t have to contribute a single penny out if your paycheck and every single associate received profit sharing after 90 days. Only 20% of Walmart/Sam’s associates participate in 401k because they CAN’T AFFORD IT. There are associates out there with $150,000-$200,000 in company contributed profit sharing that was given to them by the company and they’ve never contributed to 401k. Company contributed profit sharing>401k. Change my mind.
They match our 6% which is twice as much as they gave us yearly with their profit sharing. But you never kept a record of that the know that.
You forgot the biggest one. Company contributed profit sharing.
Nothing ever stays the same is right. Here's a list of ways that they used to pay us extra $ for:
-
Time & a half on Sundays. Stopped that for everyone on 9/1/1992
-
$1 More on Sunday.
-
.50¢ More for being on the Safety Team.
-
.50¢ More for Forklift drivers
-
Merit Raises
-
Christmas Bonus. They still pay that to those like me who were hired before 1/1/2001
-
Yearly Raises on our Anniversary of either .30¢, .40¢, or .50¢ which were more then the current 2% raise.
-
Yearly Meetings in receiving with pizza, snacks & drinks
-
And in just a couple of weeks they won't be paying .50¢ more for those working overnight.
Its changing again for the third time in our club. They dont know what they are doing. The first time we were told the changea would be permanent. One thing I've seen with this company, is nothing is permanent.
And if you don't like what's put on this site then leave! Works both ways buddy!
Typical narrsissat comment you you you .loser
Some would say that you are the self entitled person. It benefits you so screw everyone else. Wouldn't want you on my team because you only think about yourself.
