Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

What do they expect people with children to do?

I was told I have to work 1-9:30 everyday and be off on Tuesday and Wednesday. I guess I am supposed to put my kids on the school bus in the morning and say see you tomorrow. How can I do that everyday? I won't. I already started looking for something else. Take care of your associates and they will take care of our members. Did I read that big picture in the break room right? They don't care about the associates so that's what they are getting back in return. It's sad you have to pick your job or your kids.

And I don't have any kids, so should I have to work all the weekends and any shift after 3:00 pm because YOU have children? I don't get to call in sick when my dog is ill or get to leave early.

If you don't like your hours, simply quit and go find another job. Heartless, no. But don't drag this out for 18 years. Find a job more suitable for your life and your Family. Life is about sacrifices and change is often times the key.

@1dfe before you go, can you tell me where you hide your TC70 so I can use it. Also, anything else you hoard in your locker I’ll take. Good luck buddy, hope your new job is a success.

When you have a job and have worked that job for many years you know what is required and what to expect. You roll with the punches and sail along. Then they suddenly want you to only work the late shift and not see your family? That's not ok.

If you went to interview for a job and that is what is expected and you accept it then that is different. This change is too much for many of us this time. The evening shift will be an even bigger revolving door than before. Good luck. I'm out.

@1stp

Just because others do not benefit from it, does not make it, does not make it wrong.

I think people should always do what’s right for themselves. However, second shift exists in more than just retail and I wonder how those people deal with work/life balance. If a job doesn’t fit your needs, then find one that does. To think that even a small business is going to run their business around people having children, is unrealistic.

@1bmn I don't care who benefits from it. The ones who suffer will suffer greatly. Just because others benefit does not make it right.

I am currently closing 3 days a week and I also have kids that I miss when I close. My new schedule is going to be mornings and I will be able to see my kids more now. How dare you insinuate that your kids are more important to see than my kids are important for me to see! I am happy to spend more time with my wife and kids and people like the OP is going to ruin it for others like me!

So let me say that I feel bad that the new schedule will cause the OP to go somewhere to work. The comments I made above are not how I actually feel toward the OP. The statement is only framed in the way I wrote it to illustrate that for many people who are hurt by the change, there are others that will benefit from it.

Thank you JOHN FRAUDNER for turning our lives and livelihood upside down. What goes around comes around. You too will be thrown in the trash once you have served your purpose.

You know what John Furner's doing don't you? This company is pushing members to use their app & self checkout & self return. And in doing so, that leaves them with too many cashiers and associates. This is the best and fastest way to get rid too many associates. This company will be just fine because by lowering their expenses (us), they're going to lower the price of 1,000 items. Lower prices = more members = more sales = $. If you want to win too, buy Walmart stock.

Ref. to person who posted about having to choose between your job and your children. There is no choice when it comes to family they are first. Good luck with your job search hope you find a job that will work for you.

I am in the same boat as you. My daughter is also special needs. I am able to arrange things because my family and daycare. Now I'm completely screwed. If they think I'm seeing my daughter in the morning and saying see you tomorrow, they are f'd up in the head. I'm not even giving this new schedule a chance. I can't. My last day will be June 21st. Whether I have a job lined up or not. My CM is already asking me to reconsider. Trying to figure things out that'll work for me. But why? So someone else could get the c-appy position? I'm not going to be accused of being a favorite. Plus you know other big changes will hit us again. I'm done with John Furner and his games. He wants to crimple the company, let him have it. This place will be nothing soon.

That sign you read in the break room is in regards to the original culture of Sam’s Club. It’s extinct. Culture is completely out the door. The Three Basic Beliefs is no longer a part of their mindset. Respect for the individual had been abolished.
