Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Marketing bloodbath this week (w/o 5/20)

Ah, yes. The dysfunction wand was waved over Marketing the past 2 days. Many layoffs, great managers stripped of all direct reports, teams dessimated.

We get "treated" to yet another set of even more anemic and nonsensical org charts on 5/28, right after the holiday weekend. How wonderful!!

We can all tremble together and feel collective stress. We're told even more is coming...OC cuts, etc. will eventually be made. Fantastic!!

HAPPY HAPPY, JOY JOY!!!!!!!!!

(Remind me again why anyone would want to work here? Nice reward for sticking by the company when times are tough.)

Let's just hire The Grinch as our new CEO and be done with it. He'd feel right at home and continue the abuses blissfully. Green Kool-Aid for all !!!!

I don't think anyone wants all white males. No one said that.

When you come to the conclusion that former execs were lining their pockets & destroying lives to fill quotas then it all becomes more clear.

You can’t have a company comprised exclusively of white males and expect to win the business of women and minorities

Wells Fargo can not afford to serve white males exclusively. If they could they would but they can’t

It’s a numbers game. That’s all.

Diversity is politically correct garbage. It has zero positive effect on the business & it absolutely was a factor in the downfall of this company.

It’s not JUST to avoid lawsuits. All money is green, and they want to make money off of all. They can’t look like a white frat boy’s club and do that.

To all the posters who whine about diversity, I hope you are all the next to go.

Personally, I hope Wells goes under, but if it doesn't, we don't need people like you making a bad reputation worse.

Stop blaming other people for your poor life choices.

I get it, the new Wells Fargo marketing campaigns are soliciting the rich, millennial population. Just having fun, talking on the iPhone, listening to music, in easy going, comfy clothes on some city street.

They DO need to bank with Wells Fargo. It is in their best interests for sure!

How was it handled? The usual meeting invite sent out the night before, a tap on the shoulder, or some other way? Sorry to hear people were crying, if that’s true. WF is not worth anyone’s tears.

They should just outsource the whole marketing department. All they do is produce endless worthless documents.

Layoffs before a holiday are VERY common.

They hope people will work our their anger and grief over 3-day weekend and come back to work 100% productive.

Disgusting, but true.

Wells Fargo is after the millennial and “mass affluent” market big time right now. And of course visually it’s all about diversity. It’s just easier that way. They live in fear that showing white people, especially affluent white people, might send the wrong message.

As for the recent $400 bonus, for a direct deposit of $3,000 or more, Wells Fargo Marketing Campaign offer that guy who shows up all over the internet in the Wells Fargo Marketing campaign with the tacky clothes, busy on cell phone with ear buds, on the city street, does not appear to be an individual who would actually qualify to be included in this marketing offer.

Some of the new Wells Fargo marketing campaign advertisements that pop up on the internet are really not the best for encouraging new customers who may have a lot of money to invest in with Wells Fargo. Like the marketing ad to get $400 dollars for opening a direct deposit at Wells Fargo, of a significant amount, that pictures a person with really laid back easy going clothing, looking like all he does for a living is listen to music with ear buds on, and is maybe just a kid, or a rather unsuccessful career individual, does he have a job? Does this marketing campaign image represent the types of customers that Wells Fargo needs to attract for new business, or keep as current customers? NO. But it looks a lot like a "diversity" attempt.

Marketing is spread out all over the country. My team is in SF, Charlotte, Minneapolis, Des Moines, and New Jersey. Oh, and Seattle. And I’m probably forgetting a few.

Nothing happened in my location. I suspect it will be next week, before the new org charts I only know about from this thread are published.

But we know nothing.

I’m a remote employee and am not part of the cool kids club, aka San Francisco offices. Haven’t heard a word about layoffs this week.

I do have to say that I’ve never worked at a place that had layoffs before a holiday. Keep it classy WF

JM is a joke. I hope new CEO fires her for this debacle of a business model and brings in a new, competent CMO.

Of course, WF isn't telling TMs of those who are let go. You figure it out through deductive reasoning and whispers, as always.

When a company feels shameful about activities, they try to hide them. And g*d forbid you aren't as productive due to office chatter about cuts/reorg.

WF motto: Don't you DARE be human. Don't you dare be angry about scandals and leadership corruption. Don't you dare show emotion as colleagues and customers lives are ruined.

Work like a tireless robot to make profits for execs. Leave human behavior -- specifically, the worst of the worst, including greed and corruption -- to senior management.

How could you be in Marketing and not know about the layoffs and massive reorg? Talk to people, for goodness sakes. Leadership may try to keep us in the dark and tell us to wait until ML's call, but we're not lemmings. This level of apathy is scary and so typical of Wells employees.

People crying in the restrooms, leaving abruptly....if you're compassionate and aware, you've heard of what the poster is referring to.

Next Friday official org charts are being posted.

I’m in marketing also. I heard from my manager that a couple of people in SF who we used to work with were laid off, but there was no official announcement or anything like that. Just grapevine stuff.

Which is pretty much par for marketing. This management team is not big on communication.

so weird that I didn't hear a word about a 'reorg' this week, and I work in Marketing with other Marketing business partners

While there are good reasons to slash overhead areas like marketing, diversity is not one of them. Organizations that have a broad employee base that challenges social norms are more innovative and ultimately productive. Also less inclined to incur legal fees for hate crimes. So walk that racist BS right out of here.

Marketing is to provide product sales to a company. The marketing department has been knee capped because the bank has a restriction by the regulators to cap their growth, therefore there are no immediate needs to "cross sell" to customers, which was what got Wells Fargo into the mess to being with. And new customers wouldn't want to open accounts anyways at Wells Fargo.

Since the settlement marketing’s job has been to convince the public via slogans and advertisements that we’re not the bank they know we are

Before that their job was to bring in business directly via advertisements for products and services, and to create an image for the brand that would make people consider Wells Fargo when they were in the market.

Please don’t take my question the wrong way. I am genuinely asking in a sincere manner. How does marketing bring growth to the company? The company has long said since the sales scandals that they are trying to trim the fat. I don’t mean to be rude. Marketing appears to be a very bloated department in terms of bringing the company growth, very similar to mortgage and payroll. There are job families such as the Private Bank/PCG (while yes are still experiencing cuts as well) that manage multi-million dollar portfolios, which is turn equates to growth.

It’s been a couple of years now since Wells has publicly said they are trying to cut costs. The writing has been on the wall for far too long now.
