Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Why?

Why is Oracle laying off some of its most experienced employees and then hiring outside people to fill positions they could have (and should have) been promoted to? No money is saved that way. The new person still gets the high pay that could have stayed with the original employee - and they could have just left the position he or she came from vacant.

So what's with the focus on hiring from the outside for most management positions?

Too much corruption and incompetence internally. Better to hire from outside.

It's not fun to work for the 3 rich J stooges

Because the 3 stooges are just that: Turd who is a depraved imitation of a human being who run HP into the ground based on his deranged ideas of how to run a business; SC who is a former lawyer and I/banker who knows nothing about technology or brining a business; and then there is LE who got rich way beyond his imagination and skills who has never cared about management, who is now old and tired, and whose ego prevents him from listening to others doing basic common sensical things. So there you have it, the perfect storm destroying oracle.

Microsoft didn't turn on a dime. Satya Nadella gets the credit, but Ballmer is the one who started turning the ship a decade ago. Their transformation has taken that long.

This wasn't just lip service or fake cloud like Oracle's original announcements. This is when all Devs worldwide got trained and started building cloud services, and Microsoft started investing billions in infrastructure. Admittedly they already had a lot of infrastructure because of Hotmail, MSN, Xbox Live, etc; but this is when they started turning the ship.

This industry is not very forgiving for late comers, let alone do-overs. That said, it’s not impossible. Microsoft was written off for dead and that company turned itself around on a dime. Technical leadership and execution. Oracle has no upper level technical leadership or vision, certainly not from these dh’s in Seattle. Coming in from a super fast paced start-up, the first thing O does is k--l that innovative momentum and break your will to do something significant. You got to keep it going for yourself to stay in this game.

"Where Amazon, Microsoft and Google invest in their people, motivate them, give them energy and make them want to learn - and produce.."

I have heard that all three of them demand long hours from their employees and that many burn out and leave.

Oracle is no more than a sweatshop

Because someone put to much responsibilities to OCI to rule everything! even the layoff

Why we can't make it?

I don't find one person with motivation to work! is that the root cause of looking outside? NO

because who ever join Oracle now, get shocked very quickly of how bad Oracle treat their employees

Where Amazon, Microsoft and Google invest in their people, motivate them, give them energy and make them want to learn - and produce.. - Oracle fail big time.

We are going down very quick now

Why would anyone think they "should have" been promoted? There's no logic at Oracle that moves you up the ladder in management. They can hire anyone they want and employees don't have rights to any job promotion. It's just how they do things and it's not employee friendly or supposed to help you with your career. If you want standard, stable, predictable raises and promotions, you'll need to look outside Oracle.

Oracle is desperate to “show” the stockholders and analysts that they are striving to innovate with this employee churn - mostly for show, perhaps a little for hoping a wunderkind or two can truly introduce innovations. Meanwhile, the stock buybacks are continuing to provide the real stock buoyancy.
