Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Does State Farm ever try to keep its best employees?

I'm wondering, since other companies sure do. And State Farm sure seems more than happy to get rid of them - at least judging by who is being laid off every time.

So has it ever happen? Has anybody who submitted their resignation been offered anything (better pay, benefits, something) to stay?

Been here 29 years. Proximity fire rep and my area is 2 1/2 hour drive, 5 hrs drive a day to handle fireclaims. I'm at the end of my rope. State Farm has caused me to grind my teeth with the stress, sleep 4-5hrs at night, drive half awake, make me climb 2 story roofs I don't feel safe on, to be criticized by some reinspector that won't get on the roof and I'm left to defend myself to my team manager who has no idea what I'm talking about. I should be filing workers comp for the dental issues and high blood pressure. I can't wait for the lung cancer going into the burned out houses for the 20 years. You really want to know how I feel about the company that hired me 29 years ago, they could careless. So if you are in office, good for you.

Outside newly minted ET execs seem to be doing ok. Guess they must be viewed as better employees.

5nwf, did they change how loss ratio plays out with the agents when changing underwriting criteria?

5xqd nobody is eligible or we are 20% to 50% than Gieco or progressive.

Look at the surplus gains, we are self destructing ourselves. Major Brand damage.

Again whoever came up or work on this underwriting model needs to be sc-ap. Customers are fleeing and there is no back-flow with new business.

2his- what is up with the current underwriting model. Back in the day it was "average or better."

K--l the pension so outta date if they don’t want longtime associates double the match on the 401k. It’s what they are going to anyways not sure why everyone hasn’t plan for it by now. Get the company in a better competitive situation cut the drain with the pension before the market drops 50%.

Ya they dont try to keep good employees around. They took us for granted thinking we would never leave. Had us work tons of overtime for nothing.

Well, I quit this year after over a decade and i dont regret it. I know many other strong employees who have left recently. State Farm breeds mediocrity and that's what sticks around.

Don't need to keep them. Hubs were built in large cities to give the company an endless stream of employees. One leaves two apply. Stay less than 5 years no drain on pension, no high salary, etc. It keeps costs down which translates to liwer premium and happy customers. They should off shore the call centers. Save mucho $$$$

@ihz

Makes ZERO sense. You were going to leave and go to a competitor with better benefits, supposedly you already 'got the job', but instead stayed simply because your TM asked you to. For a whole extra year. "Please stick around another year, should be better next year!". "OK, I will but it better BE BETTER, OR else!". Yup, sounds legit! You are a 'high producer', so they will go all out with hollow promises to keep you from quitting. Based on your superior decision making, you sound like an asset to The Farm.

State Farm truck is driving off the cliff, it’s bad everywhere in ops. Agency has been shut down with production in every zone. Who ever came up with the current underwriting model needs to be removed immediately. The brand damage is unbelievable.

It’s like either someone doesn’t care or doesn’t have the competencies to run the company.

What a mess! We don’t have to worry about competition we are k--ling ourselves.

I know for a fact that the new benefits package is BS. How do I know this? Because there are Corporate goons on here in just about every thread posting about how great it's going to be, and they are the PR arm of an apparatus that has done nothing but spread lies, incompetence, and nonsense for several years now.

You think the executives are actually shown a report (or maybe a white paper!) showing just how much propaganda is spread here? Look here, Mr. Tipsord! We're waging warz on the interwebz! State Farm reputation safe!

Supposedly the new benefits have doubled to $2400 per year 401k match. It’s a start. The irony is no one wants to work in such a toxic & stressful environment with pay that is below competitors. Folks I know are also frustrated with minuscule merit increases that only adds a few bucks to their paychecks. Will be interesting to see what the highly paid external consultants working on this come up with, the turn it over to executive to put lip stick on the pig and try to convince us it’s a beautiful thing! The pay and ZERO work/ life balance is running great employees off in droves.

After this weeks big layoff of announcement, I can see them do whatever they want at this point. I wouldn’t be counting on any super benefit change maybe a enhanced 402k match. For sure count on pension freeze and higher health costs down the road.

A new way to tout the supposed coming benefits package rollout. Pure speculation at this point. All you have to is scroll these boards to see the supposed changes. Delaying gives time to alter and lessen what's rumored out there if these are true.

Public Affairs working the boards hard.

Not a stupid post at all. I don't think they have necessarily tried to get rid of their best employees, but from what I've seen it's all been about age; good, bad, average, didn't matter, the older you were the less you were welcome in the "new and improved" SF.

As far as people leaving on their own because of work conditions, I'm sure there has been adverse selection. The better you are the more likely you have other options. So from the group of people just leaving for something better, they have likely lost more good employees than bad. From the "structure study casualties" they've lost a lot of experience, salary, and both good and bad. I've seen zero effort in the structure study groups to retain strong employees, even ones more technical in nature.

I think they are just trying to get to a bottom line number for non executive employee expense. I'm not sure what that number is, but it probably something along the lines of 70% of base year 2017.

They are just trying to keep employees until they get all of their automated ducks in a row and Then they will drop the boom. If you are early in your career get out now as the older you get the more afraid you are to make a move and they know it. Not the company I was once proud to be part of, just hanging on until I get my ducks in a row and I’m out.

@ZLzzKFf-ihz Yes, the mythical benefits package that has not been announced but everyone in management knows about...I must have been on PTO the day they told all of us in management about this great package coming next year that is a secret.

SF is still shedding itself of its most expensive employees in my opinion. Most of the "expensive" employees (certainly not all) are among the best and have been caught up in this scheme. They might try to keep a lower paid employee by offering them a job grade promotion or something, but certainly not a long term one unless losing them would cause a lot of disruption for their department or section.

It also looks like they are nearing the completion and sunset of their purge scheme. Maybe that's why we see here "stay for next year's benefits package" over and over, probably from some social media team. That just suggests that they are ready to make SF a great to place to work again starting next year, without all the loyal and hard working employees they've forced out. Either that or they're desperate because they really f'd up.

Stupid post. Yep, I’m sure the conscious intent is to get rid of “the best” employees. Good grief.

I need to know what this package is going to be. I have already quit. I want to see what I'm missing. But in my 3 decades there, a majority of changes really weren't for the better.

Remember those who stay. Beware! They are going to sell you it's a better benefit package just like the PTO. PTO took away and they sold y'all like it was gold. Other non insurance companies pay more with better benefits.

Six in my unit are leaving, I have three interviews set up in the next two weeks. After 16 years it’s time to leave. I can’t understand what’s happening with State Farm. Someone is making huge mistakes it’s so bad now in the hubs most don’t even lift there heads up. My agent said it’s worst at there end. Best of luck to everyone time to move on. I thought it would get better it’s getting worse.

They do. 2 of us were going to quit and go to a competitor with better benefits. Our TM asked we stay 12 months for the new benefits package rollout. We are two of the highest producer and have friends who went there telling us we got the job. But we will wait. Better be a good package
