Two pharmacists in my district were laid off and at my store 23 pharmacist hours were cut. There will basically be no double coverage and only one pharmacist will now be on duty. If you are a patient/customer, you need to plan to wait. This is dangerous. I have no clue what will happen when flu season approaches and the pharmacist will not be able to fill pr-scrip-ions because they have to give flu shots. This is so sad for the profession of pharmacy.

I have been a pharmacy technician for 5 years at Walmart and I was also pulled into the office today and told I was being “Let Go” and it wasn’t based off my work performance just a random selection from a computer. They told me I have until the 30th of August to find work but they took my pharmacy bag & offered me a position within the store until August.

Walmart just sent the upper management to Disney world for a week to learn how to make their employees happy! I'm sure laying off staff and cutting payroll by 40 hours was not mentioned as they rode Space Mountain!! Great way to save money Walmart! Patient safety is no longer a concern...we give imzs, test for cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure with untrained techs and fill 500 rxs a day. Consumers/patients need to voice their concern over their safety concerns or things will not change. Sad times as a professional to be treated like a group of cattle!! Walmart prides themselves on respect for the individual?! What a joke!!

All stores in my market all lost pharmacist hours. Pharmacist shifts at my store are now EIGHT hours long.

Some pharmacists will have to float now if they want to make up hours!

Husband was just laid off today. Called into the office and told it was nothing he did or performance wise, just a corporate restructuring. He was hired as a part time floater pharmacist 6 months ago. He is getting paid until the end of August and we keep the insurance until then. We debated between this job and another offered at an independent pharmacy. We made the wrong choice unfortunately. I will start making my doctor appointments tomorrow.

Pharmacist and 1 tech got axed out in texas, I just think its straight up wrong not giving them a heads up, they are sugar coating the real reasons to the layoffs. Searching for new job, I dont know where my future stands with this company at this point, can happen to anyone regardless if you have been with the company 20 plus years or 1 year they dont care. Good luck to everyone hopefully these layoffs are not continuing

The phrase “Don’t keep all of your eggs in one basket” couldn’t be more true now than ever before. Pharmacists should all start finding new jobs then quit. Hell, get together and open your own pharmacy.

Today In my district, another pharmacist I went to school with and I were let go. We are 5 years out of school and they had already cut our hours previously. A couple techs at different stores were let go as well.

It’s true. I was a Pharmacy Manager for 3 1/2 years up until today. I’ve been eliminated with a blanket statement that it was “strictly a business decision.”

This has been rumored for a while. WalMart was looking to sell their pharmacies to United Health Care. CVS and Walgreens couldn't absorb them and get past the anti trust.

I guess when so many Rx's are $4.00 it is difficult to keep your margins up. Was a productive PIC for WalMart for 21 years and 2 weeks. Left 5 years ago at my 50th birthday and never looked back. Those of you who work for WalMart know that their reputation for the treatment of their staff both in and out of the pharmacy is true.

Decisions are made in Bentonville

I suspect that this staff shedding is to prepare for a sale. I'm betting an Amazon type buyout.

With Amazon and d--g price reform in the horizon this has to happen now.

I left my store 5 years ago. Staff of 15. Did 550 a day average. Only one person remains.

They took the phun or of pharmacy long ago.

40 pharmacist hours per week cut, 70 hours per week of cashiers cut. Life is good when your filling 4000 Rxs

I MEAN "Anyone familiar with a keyboard can process the script..." as in any one off the street on a computer with a program to simply fill in blanks. This is wrong. I want experienced techs or a pharmacist or Pharm D. standing there.

Hi, I honestly had no Idea this Walmart thing was happening. I am a fourth-year pharmacy student that is doing my second cycle of APPE rotations with Walmart Pharmacy and I started as of yesterday. I got a call from my school this morning saying that my preceptor, also the pharmacy manager there, who had 30+ years of experience working at that same Walmart pharmacy as a pharmacist and a preceptor to students, was called in on her day off to let her know that the company had to let her go due to immediate budget cuts that were being made and that she is let go of as of that moment. My pharmacy school is now scrambling to find me something. I am uncertain of where I am headed or even if I'll find a preceptor to take me with such a short notice. Everyone is shocked and no one saw this coming per my school.

Apparently a lot of pharmacists and rx managers got laid off yesterday in the northern IL area. Somehow I was able to avoid this as a PT-Hourly floater pharmacist. But some of my friends and co-workers were laid off. Mixed feelings about this. In the end, unless you're giving always 110% in corporate America, you're expendable. I always try to the best job I possibly can for my patients and hope for the best.

I lost my job this morning. I was prn. I'm guessing because I worked too much and I strategically lived 2 mins from my store so when I traveled to other stores I was always compensated heavily.
