So HW contributes 10% of O's revenue, but 20% of its net profit.

The problem is also with sales. Oracle hasn’t hired a particularly good HW sales team. Believe it or not, good salespeople can really make a difference.

When Oracle first absorbed Sun, There were several incidents where server manufacturing was hours away from shutting down. Why? because the purchase order for parts and components needed for assembly of the various lines sat on LE's desk unsigned while the lines were starting to run critically low. The purchase power is so low that only LE could approve the order. He was contacted numerous times to signed it or else production would grind to a halt. It sat and sat and sat until finally LE came off his yacht and signed it. Not of the upper execs had any interest in how the supply chain worked, about lag times and about manufacturing in general.

Solid strong. But, LE never invested money, it was just the legacy from Sun Microsystems. He fired lots of, lots of, lots of great leaders and engineers. They are all head leaders, engineers in other companies. What a business.
