Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Raises anyone?

What's up with raises at Oracle? Industry estimates state that 3% should be the average raise for good workers, and 2.5% for average workers. But not at Oracle.

Oracle delayed their employee raises for a FULL YEAR. Rather than their 3 to 6 month evaluation and compensation evaluation period, this time is was a full year. Yes, employees are getting raises based on FY18 performance at the start of FY20!

At the end of that time period, it seems (from several employees) that the "average" employee got 0% and the good employees got 1.5% to 2%. What's more, Oracle is not providing alternate compensation to some of their best employees. In fact I don't know of anyone who got stock, options, or bonuses.

Yet, this is a time that Oracle has announced positive growth in the business. Oracle is also benefitting from massive corporate tax cuts with Trump's tax bill. Yet, Oracle is still paying below market, even after recent layoffs in June. Are they trying to disincentivize their good employees?

Is Oracle just cheap, thinking they can get away with demanding more productivity from employees while paying less. Or, do they want a large employee exodus to competitors and other companies in the coming months? Perhaps Oracle executives and the board want that, rather than having to lay off more people in the months ahead.

Something doesn't add up. Comments anyone?

You cry about no raise for a FULL YEAR - lmao. You must be new to Oracle. Come back when it's been 4, 5, or 6 years! That is if you can dodge the RIF Fairy for that long.

Funny that you ask about raises in a board dedicated to layoffs happenings.

Yes, Oracle is still laying off, some were let go in India this week, x-GIT.
We have folks let go in Asia, before OCI hiring additional headcount for the same exact role. Internal transfer wasn’t entertained by the hiring manager. That’s life in Oracle, when you are part of the loosing org in the high-level politics, the pawns suffer.

I've been at Oracle for 4 years now supporing Cloud. I got a raise after about 8 or 9 months. I then got a second raise about a year or year and a few months later. The first was $3k and the second was $4k. Then it was silence. Could be due to COVID, but who knows. Maybe I hit my cap. My manager did say I could quite and come back to get a raise. I thought that was ludicrous. Oracle would rather the good ones leave and come back to get paid more. Inconceivable.

Most Employees, in the PeopleSoft business unit, in Pleasanton, haven’t gotten raises in years. The consensus is that no pay raises, nor cost of living increases, it is one approach Oracle uses to reduce the head count, ( you don’t like, there is the door approach), in addition to the routine layoff schedule....

If you want more money, go work at a normal company that guarantees you a raise

I haven't seen one of those in 20+ years. There's a reason why people job hop so much, it's because if they stay put they won't get raises. It's not just O. I've worked at small, medium and large firms over the years and none of them offered cost of living raises. Not a single one.

The last time I worked at a company that "guaranteed" raises was at HP in the 1990's. They had a nice chart, which your manager could show you, that gave a range for your annual pay increase based your current pay and ranking. Even then, if your pay was high and your ranking low, you would get no raise, so not even at Biil and Dave's HP were there "guaranteed raises".

Is O stingier than the average? Probably. But other companies do not guarantee raises. Don't kid yourself. And heaven forbid, should targets be missed at WonderfulCo, watch how quickly pay freezes kick in.

I used to get a 2.5% raise every year, which was always behind the average national 4% increase in cost of living. I got RSUs a couple of times too, but left without seeing all but a couple dozen I was able to cash out.

Oracle doesn't owe anyone an annual raise or bonus. It's 100% discretionary and has nothing to do with evaluations (which are a joke) or your mind-staggering awesome skills. If you're lucky to be in a group that's in favor - you may get a raise or you may not. Depends on your manager, VP, SVP and the temperature on the first Tuesday of the month. If you want more money, go work at a normal company that guarantees you a raise but you won't see it at Oracle. (Unless you quit and come back - that the only option I've seen work)

Leave for two years, come back making $20K more! Fastest way to get a pay raise!

Oracle doesn’t do general pay raises. There are good people who have been at oracle for 10+ years who’ve never seen a pay rise. That’s just how oracle rolls. If you want a pay increase leave. If you really love working at oracle leave for a higher package and see if they will hire you back a year or so later at your new package ++. That’s the trick - we’ll proven.
