Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Anybody here that got "fired" (terminated for a cause), instead of a "layoff"? No judgement, just a question during job search.

If that happened to you, how do you explain it to a future employer? I am assuming that employers call Oracle.

I am afraid that's going to happen to me for complaining on my manager to HR. I have been here for 12 years and received a performance rating of 4 and 5 in the last few years, but that might not help me if the manager is p-ss-d off.

You should be recording everything that is happening right now. They have no right to retaliate against you. You could have a lawsuit you could win, if you keep track of everything.

I worked with some terrific people at this company, so I know my manager does not represent the majority

There may be some good people at oracle, but I would argue that your manager is in the majority. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to do what he is doing and get away with it.

In my experience, Oracle is like a large barrel of apples. Some barrels may have one or two rotten apples in them, but at Oracle, the barrel is mostly rotten, the good ones are few and far between, especially where the management is concerned.

You are so gone. Layoffs occur randomly at all times. There is a 100% chance your name is on the layoff list.

Get training and certification start looking for new job today. If you time it right you can collect your severance when you start your new job.

Thank you, colleagues, for your responses. They are definitely making it miserable, including handing all my projects to others. My manager also told another director that he's having to reassign my projects because I'm experiencing burnout or dealing with personal matters. As much as that angers and saddens me, I've decided to not question him on why he's spreading rumors.

It's all a learning experience, and I decided to invest my time in looking for a job and get out of here as soon as I can. I worked with some terrific people at this company, so I know my manager does not represent the majority, but he does have some power in this situation.

Thanks again, and good luck to all.

They will not fire you, they’ll keep you in back pocket for the next lay-off

Large employers, like Oracle, will only provide dates of employment, They will not say how and why your employment ended. So if you tell a potential employer that you were laid off, there is no way for them to verify it.

No, they can't fire you for complaining about your Manager to HR.

Instead, they will just make your life so miserable you will eventually quit on your own. Pure win for them: get rid of a disgruntled employee, and not have to pay any severance.

They can't terminate you for cause, just for talking to HR. If they fire you, they have to tell you why and you can sue them if the cause is not just. Talking to HR is not a reason to fire someone, you would have to have done something else. If they make something up, you should be keeping records of your own, maybe even recording whatever to make sure you have what you need.

They would most likely just lay you off if they wanted you gone because of a disagreement, but I don't think they can fire you.

In the USA, it's rare for potential employers to call previous employers directly. For a lot of legal reasons, the previous employer should not be providing HR-confidential information over the phone to strangers anyway. If they ask for references, they may call them but you are in control of that. Most employers subscribe to services or HR services that already know your employment history (yeah, that's creepy I know). Good luck.
