Banning the exploitation of temporary work visas is not racist. The CEO just made nearly $22 million in 2018, Cisco does not need to exploit the visa system or temp workers. Although paying American wages might result in the CEO earning $5 million/year as opposed to $22 million/year.

Most of Cisco's future revenue will come from third world countries. If you're racist, I'm afraid you're gonna be in a shock when your job is shipped to said third world countries.

Engineers, even racist ones, should understand the law of unintended consequences.

If H-1B visas disappear tomorrow those jobs are not lost they just relocate to other countries.

Right now it is convenient to pay moderately skilled engineers low wages in the United States so management can keep tabs on them. Eliminate the visas and they just accept the difficulty of managing their overseas staff. Eventually they move the managers there too.

Like it or not, we are in a global economy. Nothing happens in isolation. Eventually software engineering jobs will average out worldwide... That means the really underpaid engineers in India and China and the really over paid engineers in the valley and in the cloud we'll make the same.

If your job s---s, it isn't because someone has a Visa - just because you haven't kept your skills good enough to get a better job.

Kick out those outsourcing companies in Bay Area taking over majority of H1-B visas. Those were meant for US based companies, not for these overseas outsourcing companies registered as local companies. Stop the abuse of H1-B visas.

Bay area is a scam where cash rich cos have distorted the market by paying outsize amounts. Same quality of people or better is available in many other usa locations and abroad.

But they continue to grab the mindshare of young people and cycle continues. Live best years of life in a tiny condo with a poor commute for the privledge of having a desk in goog or fb and a serf to corporate masters with kool aid of doing good ( exposed now )

Return of manufacturing has trump been able to do anything about it? The not so highly educated area underclass needs manufacturing more than bay area elites need more tech jobs. One cannot equate the needs of a elite minority with the real needs of a 300 million pop country whose bottom layer is on edges of poverty with no generational upward mobility. Organized manufacturing jobs with benefits and healthcare used to provide that.

Yep half of the United States is a 3’d world country now. No need to look far for people to exploit.
